Friday Friends: Some Lovely Kludges

There are times when a kludge is necessary. For example, you’re stuck in the middle of the woods and just tumbled into a ravine and judging from that white bit protruding from your leg, a temporary cast made from a stick and some duct tape will suffice until you either get to help or a bear eats you. Sometimes, a kludge is just easier. Or funnier. But trying to sell your house should not be one of those times. Luckily for us, my friend Sara has a blog to point out that common sense when it comes to real estate is pretty uncommon. Check out these gems:

I’m not entirely sure what the point to this contraption is. Log flume for mice? Sluicing for gold? Hand pump because the indoor plumbing hasn’t worked in twenty odd years?

Afternoon Fixers! It is afternoon, right? I think only half the clocks in my house have been reset for Daylight Savings time and my circadian rhythm is all wonky. Anyway, even though there were holidays to celebrate over the weekend, Daylight Savings, Halloween, Day of the Dead, many of you still took the time help me with my cell phone problem. Oh man. You guys really like to make a girl feel torn. So many good entries. In the end though I narrowed it down to the “Good”, the “Bad” and the “Made Me Laugh So That Coffee Went Into My Sinuses, Thanks”.

The Good

Mike is an optimist. A glass half full kind of guy. The guy that helps strangers, opens doors in the middle of spooky hallways, and always forwards a funny email. Or at least these are the assumptions I made based on the carnival going on here.

Jonneh C on the other hand, knows what really awaits you on the other side of mysterious doors. Pedobear Mr. Tumnas. He also knows that there are no women on the internet and everyone with a mustache is a child molester. True story.

Akira O has obviously spent too much time on the Internet. So much so that they instantly recognized this door for what it was. Please keep it closed in the future…the troll infestation is getting out of hand.

After the success of the first Caption Contest, we decided that it must continued if only for the sake of lulz you all gave us (and a few “Wow, that’s like ridiculous good”). So here goes.

Clearly, this building is an innocent casualty of a Power Rangers battle. It has fallen and it can’t get up. Unless YOU fix it. Once again, the email for contest entries is thereifixedit+contest2@gmail.com

After some initial confusion last time about dates and times for deadlines, all contest entries submitted by Monday morning (PST) will be in the running. Winners will receive two(2!) free internets and will be announced sometime Monday afternoon.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We here at ThereIFixedIt were hard at work judging submissions when we were sidelined by the fact that booze was readily available. So apologies on taking so long getting “The Winnar Is You!” up.

We had so many good entries that we couldn’t pick just one. Well, we could have but it involved two of us getting into a knife fight while our wrists were duct taped together; so in the spirit of goodwill we instead narrowed it down to the following three. Congratulations guys!
