Boutique lamp makers Typewriter Boneyard recently released the Book Lamp, a hardcover book with a built-in switch and bulb. But here’s the thing: it costs $140. I have a feeling you wonderful fixers can put together a book lamp that looks just as good for a fraction of the price. Think you got what it takes?

Kludgin’ Dirty Winner!

Last week (or approximately ten years in Internet time), I cavalierly suggested that y’all make up some lyrics to go with this epic beast. As usual, the Fixers did not disappoint but in the end it came down to DCR and Ceci as going above and beyond the call of duty in entertaining me everyone.

And the winner is…..after the break; complete with song lyrics!

Oh Taylor, I’m not sure what you did to anger some wicked witch, but she has certainly cursed you with horrible awards luck. Sure you might win everything in sight, but the karma bus just keeps running you over regardless. Not to worry though, the Fixer community is here to help. Afternoon Fixers! It is afternoon, right? I think only half the clocks in my house have been reset for Daylight Savings time and my circadian rhythm is all wonky. Ring Ring Ring….Contest Time

The internet converges in mysterious ways. You guys loved the cell phone kludge from earlier this week and I’ve been racking my brain trying to come up with a new photoshop contest for you guys. Then an idea struck me like lightning…

…or like a busboy stealing my phone that I accidentally left on the table when me and family went out to eat, using it to call Guatemala several times and charge a lot of Spanish ring tones to my account. >.> Whichever. Long story short, the threat of calling the cops and deportation was not worth a shiny new phone and it magically “was found” under a table the next night. Damn tables, making international calls on my ~~husband’s~~ dime.

Anyway, contest! I want you guys to fix my phone. Here, I have a visual aid.

Kludge this for me with anti-theft technology. Or maybe a “HEY STUPID YOU LEFT ME ON THE TABLE AGAIN” alert system. Anything really. Because if I lose this thing again, my husband is not making hilariously bad threats in Spanish to my voice mail…

Oh man. You guys really like to make a girl feel torn. So many good entries. In the end though I narrowed it down to the “Good”, the “Bad” and the “Made Me Laugh So That Coffee Went Into My Sinuses, Thanks”.

The Good

Mike is an optimist. A glass half full kind of guy. The guy that helps strangers, opens doors in the middle of spooky hallways, and always forwards a funny email. Or at least these are the assumptions I made based on the carnival going on here.

The Bad
Jonneh C on the other hand, knows what really awaits you on the other side of mysterious doors. Pedobear Mr. Tumnas. He also knows that there are no women on the internet and everyone with a mustache is a child molester. True story.

Akira O has obviously spent too much time on the Internet. So much so that they instantly recognized this door for what it was. Please keep it closed in the future…the troll infestation is getting out of hand.

Category Contest – Part One

Good morning Fixers!

I know it’s Monday and we’re all a little ~~hungover~~ tired and bleary but we here at ThereIFixedIt need your help. You see, you guys are apparently budding mad scientists and I hesitate to think what a freak lightning storm or improperly handled electric eels would produce. But it’s given rise to a problem. That of the Frankenstein category. It seems we need one. See the post below as an example.

But calling it the “Frankenstein” category is just too traditional for the likes of us. So chug that third espresso, discretely tilt your monitor away from your co-workers and start thinking of a great name for all the cobbled together kludges that are abominations against nature. Leave your submissions in the comment section and make sure to leave replies to any you find amusing.

On Friday, we’ll take the best of the best and put them in a poll for the Fixer community to vote on. Annnnnd…go!

Rolv M, I applaud you on your fine surrealist solution. It’s Meta! (Yes, I’m feverish)

The spaceship solution was popular among contestants, and I think Lance L’s version is clean, simple, and, well, hilarious. I’ll take one ticket please.

And finally, I present to you Jose C’s fine perspective work. We had a lot of great ‘photorealism’ solutions but this one just flows for me.

Round Two Photoshop Contest…Now With 100% Less Comic Sans

After the success of the first Caption Contest, we decided that it must continued if only for the sake of lulz you all gave us (and a few “Wow, that’s like ridiculous good”). So here goes.

Clearly, this building is an innocent casualty of a Power Rangers battle. It has fallen and it can’t get up. Unless YOU fix it. Once again, the email for contest entries is thereifixedit+contest2@gmail.com

After some initial confusion last time about dates and times for deadlines, all contest entries submitted by Monday morning (PST) will be in the running. Winners will receive two(2!) free internets and will be announced sometime Monday afternoon.
