I was able to build this lamp for under $20 (US) The books cost $6, The Switch and fixture cost $7.50, and a few misc. items that was another $4.

Last week I issued a challenge to design a book lamp like boutique ones made by Typewriter Boneyard but for a fraction of the cost. Lo and behold, user Richard made a beauty. Using three used books and light fitting parts found at a DIY store, he built this model with two hours of spare time and less than £15. A tip of the hat to you sir for putting together such an impressive (and functioning) model.

Zapata Racing just released the Flyboard, a water-powered jet pack available to the public. The Flyboard gets it propulsion from a jet ski idling nearby; its hose forces water to shoot out of the user’s feet. Not as cool as a the real deal the public is still waiting on, but I guess this is a happy medium for now.

The bottom picture has been floating around the internetz for a couple years now, but the story that went with it is usually left out. As it turns out, this was a a life-saving kludge that happened a while back in the Alaskan wilderness. A fisherman went on an excursion and mistakenly left a cooler filled with bait inside the plane. A bear smelled it and tried to gain access to the delicious goods contained within.
Upon discovering the condition of his plane, the pilot radioed not for help, but for duct tape. A rescue plane showed up with three cases of the world’s most magical invention and a pair of new tires. After a couple hours of patching he hopped in and flew home without a hitch.
