Um, ‘jury rig’ DOES still, in fact, mean a temporary (and usually cobbed-up) repair, as does ‘jerry rig’. I suspect its a matter of personal preference and perhaps regional usage: I know a man who moved to this area from the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania, and we have had any number of discussions about everything from the correct pronunciation of ‘kludge’ (I rhyme with ‘fudge’ and he rhymes with ‘stooge’) to the difference between frosting and icing (as in food, not weather conditions). I will have to ask him sometime about ‘jerry’ vs. ‘jury” rig, but speaking for myself it has always been (and shall ever be) ‘jury’…to each their own…

Posted about this further up the page, but I’ll reiterate: ‘jury rig’ is a correct term for makeshift repairs, and predates ‘jerry rig’ by several centuries…

Both Wikipedia and Dictionary.com suggest that the words can be used interchangeably, though there is an entertaining notation on Wiki from the Jargon Files refering to ‘kludge’ as “incorrect (though regrettably common) misspelling of ‘kluge’…guess it’s a matter of personal preference. (Wiki also suggests a ‘backronym’ for kludge: “klumsy, lame, ugly, dumb, but good enough”)…which would technically make it ‘kludbge’, wouldn’t it…
