  1. RadarRecon says:

Looks like it’s pulling some kind of lawnmower or gardening/farming equipment.

  2. Steve says:

Every self-respecting tractor needs a Fiat 126 body for rain-protection. Hope the heater works better than factory. ;-)

  3. lnm4444 says:

It appears to be a Fiat 126 shell on a tractor.

    • Shatora says:

My guess too. seams kind dumb standard tractors don’t have a enclosed cab space i know they have a roof like thing on most for shade
(<– I be total suburb kid only know tractors from hay rides)

      • cthel says:

it depends on the age of the tractor – modern tractors have cabs, but the early ones (which this appears to be) didn’t even come with a padded seat, let alone a roof.

I suspect the farmer simply got tired of getting soaked when it rained, and used farmyard ingenuity to solve the problem

  4. Les says:

Anyone who has ever spent the day outside on a tractor would appreciate this especially if the shell is air conditioned.

  5. STress says:

Air conditioner… awwwwww, not… but, it has air cooled engine – does it count?

    • Steve says:

      HAD, Stress, HAD and air-cooled engine….. ;-)

      • tahrey says:

Old tractor like that probably still HAS… It’s not like they used sophisticated or high power engines. 15~20mph on the road (artificially limited, sure, but not exactly high acceleration) and significantly geared-down to do ploughing work etc at 1~4mph with the throttle wide open…

Might even be a hot bulb engine :-) Though that could claim to be water-cooled… if you had a model that moderated the low-load temperature by directing a trickle of water from an onboard reservoir over the bulb as it heated up.

  6. John says:

    It’s a TCARtor

  7. BakóSándor says:

    MALUCH :D :D
    Fabryka Samochodów Małolitrażowych

  8. gfhgntyntyny says:

actually this is a polish car (fiat 126p) made during the communist era and the engine is in the back. And this was obviously made in Poland because most of the pictures on this site are actually from Poland.

    • definitions says:

I was actually wondering what’s up with the ‘_Russian_ kludges defy definition’ in the poll

      • Jonadab says:

        Kids. Ask your parents.

For people old enough to remember the cold war, “Russian” commonly refers not just to today’s Russian Federation specifically but to its various (former) satellites as well. That definitely includes Poland — the Warsaw pact is actually named for the Polish capital. It also includes Ukraine, the Baltic states, Byelarussia (“white Russia”), Czechoslovakia, Molvania, the Caucasus, most of the -stan countries, the eastern two thirds (or more) of the Balkans, Hungary and possibly Austria, and sometimes the eastern half of Germany. Occasionally it also includes communist countries elsewhere (e.g., Cuba), especially the ones that were heavily influenced by Russia — but it never includes China. China is always separate. HTH.HAND.

        • definitions says:

Welcome to 2011, where the cold war is no more.

          • tahrey says:

Yes, but the thing in the picture could well be from the cold war era. Try reading and thinking next time.

Though personally I’d tag them more correctly as _Soviet_ kludges. Russia was still only one part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics after all, and it had plenty of its own car designs and manufacturers. The Fiat-derived designs (126P, various Ladas and Yugos…) were things they licensed to closer-to-home, eastern european producers a relative stone’s throw over the iron curtain.

      • Bob says:

Because pigdog Americans think anything they don’t understand is either Mexican or Russian.

        • Boss Hogg says:

No is french we no understand. Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Prussian we understand. But the damn french? Nobody understands them.

          • tahrey says:

I’d start with learning to speke inglish rite prawpper before you try understand french.

Also, just for the sake of clarity, this car started its life as an Italian design. France doesn’t come anywhere close to the things happening in this thread.

Besides, weren’t they one of your main allies in the war of independence etc? Just look at New Orleans for a start :p

    • qwertz says:

Fiat 126 is an Italian car first built in Cassino. One year after first model left Italian factory, most of production went to Poland, the car got bigger engine (700cc), better chassis and letter ‘P’ in the name for ‘Polish’. It’s still Italian car..

  9. Me says:

Looks Amish to me….probably related to Rumspringa somehow.

  10. commentater says:

I wanna see how the guy climbs up into there and gets down!

    • DrewE says:

I would imagine he (or she) opens one of the doors on the car shell, and then climbs on to or off of the tractor in the usual way.

I’m impressed with the workmanship here, actually. Everything has been painted to match, and is nice and clean. The owner apparently cares well for his (or her) equipment.

    • Harvey Walldinger says:

      opens the door
      DUH

  11. JosephineJoseph says:

The tractor had no cab so the farmer put a rather crappy car to good use. Aside from that, it looks like a normal tractor pulling farm equipment.

  12. franklin says:

that’s awesome. it keeps you out of the rain

  13. Dra says:

It’s a DIY cab for a older open top tractor. So they can work in the rain and not get wet. Decent work, actually.

  14. Samus says:

It’s the bigest polski i ever seen.

  15. Izzy says:

    An engine of nonsense

  16. elizabeth says:

    Rain(or cold wind)-related WIN!

  17. yolanda says:

A modern tractor with cab containing such luxuries as radio and decent seat, and maybe some environmental controls, costs a half million before options. this, however, probably cost less than two grand, and if you’re skilled, you can hook up the electrical and environmental stuff to the tractor’s systems. WIN! The guy even painted up the tractor fenders to match.

    • tahrey says:

You’re kidding me, right? Unless they lose a huge amount of value in the first year of use, that’s a massive overestimation.

Though I didn’t go far enough down the track to find brand-new retail prices, I can get a 1-year-old (~2000 hours of use), 360 horsepower / 60km/h (like, lamborghini levels of performance for a tractor) Massey-Ferguson with big front wheels, fully enclosed comfort cab, etc, for the equivalent of $150,000.

A light duty model such as what’s shown in the picture I’d expect to cost probably a quarter the price. Putting a lid, heater/fan and radio on top of a completed vehicle doesn’t actually cost THAT much. If this kludge cost $2000 I’d be incredibly surprised.

Price of a scrap Maluch body? Probably free. It’s not as if they’re rare.

Price of some of the parts from the original car that you want to transplant (driver’s seat, radio, fan, heater plumbing, screen wiper + motor etc)? Maybe $10-20, because the original owner can’t sell them for scrap value any more. Zero, if you happen to be said owner. In fact, you can then sell the other parts (engine/transmission if they work, wheels, brake parts, passenger seats, etc) and maybe make a small profit.

Price of kludging it together? Your spare time, some screws/nails, a bit of silicone sealant and a bit of gas and solder for your welding rig. And a rattlecan of cheap paint that vaguely matches (good enough for a photo) whichever of the car or tractor has the greater surface area plus some old newspaper and a bit of masking tape from the kitchen drawer.

  18. FeFeFe says:

It’s a two door tractor. The four door model has been delayed due to developmental issues…

  19. Snow_Cat says:

Man, these lift kits are getting more outrageous every day.

  20. Wolfpup says:

… And it’s funny, people still call us pollacks stupid….

  21. David says:

Farming in air-conditioned comfort. All the comforts of the road without all the traffic.

  22. THELEGOMack says:

    It’s a tractor!

  23. stevieray says:

Kinda looks like a Pontiac Aztek.

  24. Draco Dei says:

Guy probably just wanted AC while plowing the back 40.

  25. Vitor Rodrigues says:

    Wacky Races Reloaded

  26. Harvey Walldinger says:

I think this a useful DIY for the lowly cabless tractor.
It may get hot in the summer, but it would be awesome in the winter

  27. tahrey says:

OK a section at a time until I find which parts will or won’t post…

One like what’s in the photo is probably less than 1/4 the price, even with a cab. Putting a greenhouse on top of a tractor doesn’t actually cost THAT much.

If this mod cost 2000 I’d be incredibly surprised. Price of a scrap Fiat shell? Probably free, they’re common as muck.

  28. tahrey says:

OK a section at a time until I find which parts will or won’t post…
(that was part 2, this is part 3, so if this works it must be something in part 1…?)

Price of transplant parts from the old car (driver’s seat, radio, fan, heater, wipers, etc)? Maybe a few dollars, as the original owner now can’t ebay them. Or free, if it’s your car to start with. You can even sell the rest of it for a profit.

Price of mashing it together? Spare time, screws, nails, sealant, and some gas and solder to weld with. Plus a can of cheap paint that vaguely matches whichever of the car or tractor has the greater surface area, masked with newspaper and a bit of tape from the kitchen drawer.

  29. tahrey says:

OK a section at a time until I find which parts will or won’t post… part 1b

I didn’t search long enough to find retail prices, but I can get a sub-12-month-old (2000 hour), 360hp, 60kmh (Veyron-like performance in tractor terms) model with full comfort-cab for the equivalent of 150 thousand.

  30. tahrey says:

OK a section at a time until I find which parts will or won’t post… part 1a with the first third removed

You’re kidding… unless they lose loads of value in the first year of use?!

  31. tahrey says:

OK a section at a time until I find which parts will or won’t post… part 1a with the last third removed.

@Yolanda (because I can’t get this to reply by itself)
    You’re kidding… unless they lose

  32. tahrey says:

So, what… something in the phrase

    l-o-a-d-s
    o-f
    v-a-l-u-e
    i-n
    t-h-e
    f-i-r-s-t
    y-e-a-r
    o-f
    u-s-e-?-!

gets auto filtered out? Please, explain this one to me.

    • Not-So-Handy Andy says:

Nothing in that phrase, it’s because you submitted a dozen comments in just a few hours. The system marks that as spam

  33. tahrey says:

So, what… something in the phrase (phonetically spelt because i’m not about to make 9-10 posts with each word alone to finally narrow this down)

    el oh ay dee ess
    oh ef
    vee ay el you ee
    aye en
    tee aitch ee
    ef aye ar ess tee
    why ee ay ar
    oh ef
    you ess ee questionmark exclamationmark

means the message is automatically blocked? Please, explain this one to me.

  34. tahrey says:

    Maybe it’s “value”?

  35. tahrey says:

    No. OK. Maybe it’s “loads”?

  36. tahrey says:

Aha. Aaaahahaha. I know. It’s the one that comes before second and after zeroth isn’t it.

Mod guys, you know that word is used for more than just claiming to be the earliest poster on a board, right? Would it hurt to make the filter only apply to, say, the initial 10-20 posts on a thread, or only for about an hour after the corresponding fail being posted? It’s been five days. I’m unlikely to be claiming comments-thread-starting honours at this point.

  37. tahrey says:

    Just to check….
“You’re kidding… unless they lose loads of value in the year immediately following their manufacture and initial purchase?!”

    Ersten jahre, even.

  38. jeigh says:

Looks like it’s pulling either a hay rake or gang disks. Perhaps the opening in the back is to give whoever has to ride that piece of equipment a bit of cool air from the a/c.

  39. k5 says:

    i want this car lol

  40. Jesus says:

Oh god, they took a picture of my car…
