It’s just a solar cell trickle-charging a small battery, powering an LED, so the watch face can be read in the dark.
Yep, not a solar powered stopwatch, heck not even a stopwatch. It’s a wristwatch.

If the owner really knows their physics it’ll be a UV led, that will make the fluorescent coating on the hands glow brightly.
I did a similar thing with a keyring torch and a wristwatch on my motorbike, but then that didn’t come with a clock as standard…
Bonus points for using a self winding watch to keep itself going when you slam into potholes while trying to check the time.

There are two kind of people that buy an expensive german car:
1. They buy it new or certified pre owned, keep it filled with gas and properly manitained and fix any problems as soon as they can.
2. They buy some beater off the street, think “I have an expensive german car! Now I’ll get some!”, the gas gauge is always on empty, the maintenance is done by cheap fools and the owners still kvetch of the money spent and they do these kind of kludges because they are too cheap.
I like these kludges, but on a Mercedes? Have some pride!
