Kludging is great. Kludging is grand. But as we see on almost a daily basis here on TIFI, it can lead to disastrous results. A few friends in Bellevue, WA learned this the hard way yesterday. After having some problems with their Ford Econoline, they decided to jerry-rig a homemade fuel-injection system by opening the floor panels and pouring fuel directly into the carburetor. Wait, what? I think it’s time for a Q&A:
What was their transfer device? A water bottle.
Where was the gas coming from? An open bucket.
When were they doing this? As the van was running.
Well, you can guess what happened next. If you can’t here are some pictures:

All three of the passengers were injured in the fire, but luckily they all survived.
So remember kids, kludge smart. Wait, is that an oxymoron?
