Of course it is, if you live in your mom’s basement.
Not sure this would withstand rain so well, and rain is quite common in Germany. Not sure the type of motion sensor they hooked up would react to something as small as a bird. And what about power…?
Anyway, this is some kind of viral ad for an online electronics shop. Not the best demonstration of something useful and interesting, but it’s OK.
Also, not a kludge.
Motion sensors are more sensitive the closer you are and that bird was pretty close.
And aren’t some motion sensors adjustable to how sensitive they are?

Sometimes I’d like to build one with a moron sensor.
Motion Sensors can be quite annoying sensitive.
By parents once had one bad adjusted one in their backyard that went off for no reason all the time.
well unless we found a spider – not the “eating human” size but the size of a fingernail – that was building a web about 10 inches in front of the sensor.
I want one for my garden. Just so I can be greeted when I go out to hoe…

Evidently, a retired Rube Goldberg now grows corn in Germany.
Probably one of the funniest things i have ever seen on this site.
Seems to me that the motion sensor plus almost anything to move about suddenly, like a solenoid and buzzer would work just fine. No need for the other $1000 worth of equipment.
Especially since after a week, when the novelty wears off, the birds will be perched on it and never even budge, even after it started moving.
