Last! er…First!
Been there done that, don’t eat nachos!
BTDT too! Only i didnt have a passenger to pull it, i got to do it while i drove
My husband had to do this to his truck when the wiper motor died and we couldn’t find a replacement. I now wish I had a picture of it. Lol, we are total Kludgers.
I’m about to do that on the Work Truck – the motor likes to stall over the park switch, once it’s going it runs fine.
Everyone laughed when Fred Flintstone suggested using self-powered windshield wipers rather than the standard “pair of birds”. Well, who’s laughing now?
I always thought Jaguar was onto something when they put this on one of their old cars. Of course back then, it was called a “feature”.
Yea, because the VW on the car stands for Vaguwar.
The wipers on the bug go–ah dang it I dropped the rope.
I had a 1976 Datsun B210 that we had to do this to. I also wish I had taken a picture of it.
I had a ’72 VW that one wiper quit on, so I used a wire coat hanger to attach the two. The wire was stiff enough to make the operational one move the other as well. Didn’t think of pictures back then…it was just SOP. Every day was a kludge!
I’m almost positive I saw this exact rig on an episode of fresh prince of belair, and even back then I thought that it was a smart idea for a quick repair.
RED ONE!

Not only did the heater break (and it was snowing during spring break in typical Colorado fashion), but the wiper over the driver’s side of the windshield broke, and we students had to take turns doing the same rope thing as we drove for 27 hours.
My first car (1074 VW beetle) had washr fluid that was SUPPOSED to run off the air in the spare tire… but the hose rotted long before I got the car.
So I carried a bottle of Glass Plus all the time, and rolled down the window to spray the windshield
