omg they took my idea i did this for 6 years..they took my idea…lol
I think LifeHacker had something like this a month back or so.
First thought: That’s brilliant!
Second thought: I wish the outlets in my apartment would hold onto a plug well enough to make this work. I have trouble keeping the charger itself from falling out.
Better talk to your LL about that. Or just call an electrician. That sounds dangerous.
Bend the prongs of the plug slightly farther apart and the plug will stay in much better.
Just not while the thing is plugged in.
You should try bending the prongs of your plug outward or inward a bit. This will help them grip. If it doesn’t, you should replace the outlet itself. They only cost a couple of bucks, and anyone with a screwdriver can replace one. Just make sure you turn off the correct breaker (or remove the correct fuse if you’re in an older home) first. If unsure, get a flashlight, and shut off the main breaker while you do the work. Invest in a $5 pen-like device that will detect current if you want to make EXTRA sure you don’t get shocked.
I’m sure you could kludge together some kind of tester
Nearly every outlet in our apartment is worn out that way. It’s been that way in most apartments I’ve lived in. I know how to replace outlets, but our lease specifically prohibits us from doing any electrical work.
what exactly is this doing? what purpose does the bottle serve?
the bottle serves as a flux capacitor which keeps aliens from calling you
it improves the flow of electricity
It acts as a funnel to direct the flow of energy more efficiently in to the charging port of the cell phone. You have to use the right sort of bottle though, it has to be a “tapered top” style. If it is more cylindrical with a rounded top and bottom, the current can literally “bottleneck” and build up, thus wasting precious electrons.
Zombies can’t hold phones to their ears (their arms fall off). So, this handy dandy zombie cell-phone holder is a hands-free device for zombies.
They are all wrong. The bottle improves reception and transmission of signal. Use the speakerphone function, and you’re good to go.
The bottle allows for the phone to drip dry after you washed it. Make sure to wash it while it’s plugged in so as not to miss any calls.
not gonna lie, that’s ingenious
Agreed. They say necessity is the mother of all invention.Looks like buddy had an empty pop bottle, and wanted to charge his cell. But OH! There’s no desk space
I am sure that this idea was shown on TV in the UK a couple of years ago. Can’t remember what show it was on though. Thought was a good idea at the time though never done it myself.
message(s) in a bottle. WIN!
Nice! To make it work better in the US [see Orv's comment, above], you might want to attach it using the duplex outlet cover rather than trying to hook it over the plug.
This actually works well. When the phone’s charged, the cord can get neatly stored in the bottle.
I would have trouble making this work with U.S. duplex outlets though.
True, but the thing to do there is to use like a 1liter bottle of some sort, then you’ve got more surface area to work with. If you cut it right, you could put it under the cover plate too.
Not if said outlet is mounted horizontally.
That’s a good idea.
When the Geiger counter hits the top you have two options:
Face the facts that you phone is out of date and take action, or struts it.
That is actually good.
I see I’m not the only one with Make on their RSS:

omgwtf, i dont get it? No one has explained the purpose of this…
The adapted bottle holds the phone near the charger and stores the cord neatly when the phone is not charging.
(See Bob-H and Gangreless comments.)
But I like the aliens can’t call you hypothesis better.
The purpose is to hold the phone near the charger since most charger cords are short.
I passed this along and now there are a lot of Brownies and Girl Scouts here that will be making these for fundraisers and craft fairs. Thanks for the safety comments, they’ll be incorporated.
I see a huge market for plastic paints, beads and found art.
As for the size of the opening, whether you’ve got a double or single outlet, cut it long enough to allow for two and it’ll fit anywhere.
Putting it under the outlet plate is a marvelous idea, so long as the whole opening is big enough it doesn’t leave the plastic in contact with any wiring.
What?? no duct tape?
I like this kludge, simple and efficient
When the party to whom you are talking complains that you sound like you’re in a tin can, you can honestly say, “but I’m not in a tin can, I’m in a plastic bottle.”
Is there Siemens in that bottle?
Somebody needs to put the bag down, lay down and go to SLEEP!
WIN
why is this in there i fixed it?
Here you can see the original idea of phone charging

In Soviet Russia …
Omg, so this is suppose to look neat? It looks like s**t!
Does that phone say Semens?
I Have Two Points
1. That is GENIUS. Just my plugs are all at the floor.
2. How Old Is That Mobile??
I hate this. Stupid. Fail.
I can tell from the picture that the cord is too short to reach anywhere.and now, when it’s not charging, instead of an unsightly cord lying around you can have a lovely cut up plastic Dad’s root beer bottle.
man if there is anything better in the world than making something in ten minutes that works perfectly and is better in design, function, and appearance than anything you could pay too much for, out of readily available material that is otherwise the most horrid emblem of waste.
siemens phone is the acutal fail here tbh.
It would be better to plug in the phone and just stick it in the bottle upside down.
I think the whole point was to get some use out of an isolated plug while keeping the phone and cord off the floor.
I had the same phone and look at the link below to see how it looks after 2 cars (fell from bike!)

Nice idea by the way!
