» 29 Kludgers Kludging

  1. Blue says:

In my house, the windows are doors.

  2. DIY King says:

It’s to trick the cat into staying inside. Soon Fluffy will think this is what exists behind all doors and the owners will never have to deal with decapiated birds and bits of other animals laid at their feet when they are having dinner.

  3. Kamahl says:

I’ve heard the saying, “When God closes a door, he opens a window”… but this is new…

“When God opens a door, it becomes a window”….?

  4. Scorpion451 says:

No, I don’t want to buy an air conditioner. I don’t care how long it took you to set up this demonstration.

  5. Grumpf_be says:

And now, kittie just has to wear the noise cancellors on the left so everyone can enjoy the kludge.

  6. Bob-H says:

Carol, let’s show the audience what’s behind door number two.

Why, it’s the beautiful Frigidaire home air conditioner!

  7. Cmoir says:

Is… is that the door into a closet? Heat engine efficiency = .01%

  8. G. James says:

So many things wrong. Exterior windowed door opening into closet. Deadbolt on a closet door. Closet door frame filled with panels and a in-window air conditioner. Air conditioner installed in a closet for cooling the non-closeted space. Closing door will put hole in panel at doorknob, knock air conditioner onto closet floor.

    • grayknight says:

I’m confused, there are even more things wrong. There are no plates for the exterior door when it closes. There looks to be a thin wood thing attached to a hinge inside the closet, too thin to be a door. And there is a window shade on the door to the closet. Why, just why?

      • Keenan says:

Coming from someone that knows the people that made this and iv been to their house , That is not a closet, it is an enclosed porch on the front of the house. They open the windows in the enclosed porch when they run the A/C

    • RiderLeangle says:

About the last one it looks like a door frame is there.. so that should stop the door knob..
The rest?… Well you got it..

The real question.. so uhhm.. What are you keeping in that closet to warrant a lock?…

  9. Chaz Sugar says:

The door couldn’t close if they wanted it to because the side table/ dresser thing is in the way. and they insulated under the air conditioner unit, but not above it. and, how do they get to the other room?

  10. David says:

Maybe it isn’t a closet or even a door at all – just tromp ‘l oeil on a blank wall and the floor next to the dresser. :-)

  11. evildave says:

Actually, if there’s no place for the warm air to go but back into the room the AC is ‘cooling’, the air conditioner becomes a very inefficient space heater.

  12. Sarcastoid says:

Wow, Monday morning coffee hasn’t kicked in for the kludgers! The closet/room is a porch/veranda. The thin wooden “thing that is hinged is a screen door. The door can’t close but since there is a desperate (oh the desperation!) need of for cold air, the need is for it to be opened. The only real problem is the lack of insulation on top of the unit.

    • Vulpis says:

Actually..if you look at the top of the unit there seems to be some kind of plastic sheet, possibly of the same sort around the rest of the unit–maybe it was just taken down for the picture, or hadn’t been installed yet. I’m presuming the actual exit is off to the left or the right, since the back wall seems to be solid. Though–they’ll *still* have to go all the way outside and around the house if they want anything stored back there…

  13. mindmelda says:

    Best excuse yet for agoraphobia.

  14. Melsa says:

    It’s a door to a porch, sillies. :]

  15. Bob-H says:

I didn’t notice this before, but this AC unit cleverly uses the condenser hose to deliver chilled water to the wet bar on the lower left corner. Make mine a Bourbon and water, and don’t close that door!

  16. Nullus says:

This is in response to the favorite quote; There was never any “Thadius” in “A Cask of Amontillado”. The man’s name was Fortunado. That was the whole point – it was Poe’s irony.

  17. Nullus says:

Ignore that comment. I read out of context. Fail. My bad.

  18. Sowee says:

    Knock Knock.
    -Who’s There?
    -The Air conditioner!

  19. Hmm.. says:

It appears they’re building a wall of sorts around the a/c… Notice the purple beams which are screwed into the door frame? So as to not destroy the original? Looks like sheets of drywall below the unit… And perhaps this is the front door and they come in through the garage… Which is no doubt housing other kludges posted previously.
