Okay, okay. Chill out guys. It took me two days just to climb out from under the avalanche of submissions of this photo.
Congrats to Fixer Erik for getting to me first! – Ms. Fix-It

Copy & paste this:

I guess they managed to make it somewhat useful. I’m a Apple fan but these things are a sad excuse for a alternative to a netbook. They don’t even have USB ports!
They don’t have a lot of things, like most apple products.
you know, this was not advertised as a replacement. This was advertised as its own thing, they even said you would still need a computer but its good for small on the go tasks.
It was advertised as an alternative to a netbook. It clearly isn’t.
Does that include displaying how frivolous and uncreative you are in your purchases?
It’s not meant to replace a netbook…it’s an ereader…compare to kindle etc and see which is better…
It is pseudo intellectualism to make any comments indicating the Kindle or anything similar is better than iPad. This week the federal government warned US colleges they would be in violation of federal law on equal access if they gave or required students to use devices like the Kindle to access eBooks in class. These ultra low end devices do not meet federal standards on access.
The iPad is one of the few electronic devices in existence that meet the current law’s requirements. The iPad can be used by visually handicapped college students to access eBooks with built in special features for the blind and those with poor eyesight.
Why would you need a usb port when you can connect to everything wirelessly? I can transfer files, print, and stream video/audio wirelessly with no problem.
I just want to know what the copy looked like. You know you can hold the ‘hold’ button on the top then press the ‘home’ button and take a screenshot on anything on the screen, right? then just e-mail the picture to yourself to print it out.
Yes and the battery can’t be replaced either. There are going to be some unhappy campers in about a year…
I believe I heard they were going to be able to replace the battery actually.
You probably heard that from the same guy shown here using the “print” feature.
You’d think they’d have learned from the iPod debacle.
Actually the batteries are remarkably long-lasting. I have a first gen iPod Touch that is over three years old and still on the original battery. No problems at all. Same as my five year old Honda Civic Hybrid that everyone made a point about the batteries not lasting.
Until you understand battery technology and replacablity, keep your annoying mouth shut.
Is this the Digital Copy Protection “Analog Hole” they’re always talking about?
(It shouldn’t work anyways, Apple and HP use different polarity photons…)
They should switch to phasers then.
All of this copyright talk has really “Kindled” a “Touching” debate among “Readers.”
“Analog Hole”? Is that in the Uncanny Valley?
I never understood the hype behind those things. It’s just a giant iPod Touch. Mine works great, and I’m using it now. When I’m done with it, I can put it in my pocket. I can’t put an iPad in my pocket.
I was hoping Steve Jobs’s big anouncement last month was iPhone support for Verizon.
That’s why they plan to make a smaller iPad soon!
And what are they going to call it? An iPod Touch!
ipad nano!
Going the other way, the next version could just be a blackboard-sized classroom tool.
iBored… I mean iBoard… no got it right the first time.
they already have those, they’re called promethean boards, but they use a pen stylus , not fingers. … a finger touch screen in a school would be ridiculously fingerprinted, not to mention germ-harboring.
iTouch
The iPod Vapor.
the fact is, it’s not a giant ipod touch. It may have similar design features but its got a completely different processing unit and the A4 chip.
Also, it’s a slate… I’d like to see you fit ANY tablet computer in your pocket…
I know there isn’t a tablet computer that will fit in my pocket. But if I’m going to have to carry around a man-purse with a larger-than-a-pocket device in it, it makes more sense to get as many features out of that device as possible.
Took me time to realize what the big deal is, but imagine being a high school or college student. The iPad is incredible. You can carry all your books and all of your homework on one device that’s always connected to the internet.
So do netbooks. And they can do more, cost less, and are just plain better.
And with one little technical problem, loss or accident; your college career is shot.
Oh Coyote… you are such a ray of optimistic sunshine!
All computers should be backed up, always. Even Macs.
You should back-up Macs too!!!???!!!!??? I thought they were invincible!
My computer eats lots of fiber, so it is never backed-up.
^ So much win.
Such as Amazon deciding to remove your paid for book and notes by remote access because there might, might just be a problem with copyright.
Because you don’t back up your devices? I’m going to guess that, like the iPhone, it can be backed up.
No different with the iPad. Your point?
But your dinosaur teachers don’t use digital books, and you can’t print your homework…
Not without Flash.
I want to see how the iCopy turned out.
It probably won’t work. Photocopiers bounce a beam of light off paper to make photocopies, and the iPad has an LCD screen, which generates images with its own light. Therefore, the image on the iPad will be totally washed out in the photocopy. This is also why barcode readers can’t read barcodes projected on screens (which my friends and I tried once).
If, however, the photocopier’s internal light mechanism were disabled, the light from the iPad might actually be picked up in the scan.
and the iPad has an LCD screen, which generates images with its own light.
Not quite. The light you see is the *backlight*. An LCD-pannel just changes the filters (the LC) wave-direction (think polaroid glasses), which, with a second static filter ontop of the display causes black spots (pixels) to appear.
Its quite possible that the copy would produce a recognisable result.
allows light to pass or blocks it
Cool.
The More You Know!
I believe the barcode readers on Android can read barcodes on screen, but they can tell which surface the barcode is on.
Soooooo… you’re saying they need to use the copier’s red-eye feature?
So it will work. Fracking engineers give them a good idea and race to be the batch file to say it won’t work. There’ll be no spacex rocket for any more of us if we share these attitutes
I actually did this because the iPad won’t pick up my printer but it worked really well! I was pretty shocked. Just a little darker than my iPad shows but otherwise the same. And I have a s**tty brother printer/copier combo.
Bypassing copy-write protection?
Couldn’t help myself. I tried this, it didn’t work. Network printing works way better.
It’s true. I am, in fact, awesome.
And humble.
O Lord, it’s hard to be humble
When you’re perfect in every way
I can’t wait to look in the mirror
‘Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
O Lord, it’s hard to be humble
But we’re doing the best that we can.
Wouldn’t the light just glare off the screen….. Or am I being a stupid teenager?
Don’t be so hard on yourself.
The irony is, he’s using an HP copier to scan it, not an Apple-brand scanner.
…Apple makes scanners?
Actually, Apple did make scanners some time ago.
No, the irony is that he’s attempting to make a paper copy of something was designed to replace (among other things) paper copies. Frankly I’m appalled that this is a digital photograph; he should have gone the whole way and taken a Polaroid.
Or a daguerreotype
Or a woodcut.
lithograph? or perhaps a cave painting would be in order..
What the Hell is a “Polaroid”? Us young folk are scratching our heads.
We do this all the time. It’s the fastest and most accurate way to get a file copy of all the numbers on the bottom.
Steve Job’s version of making a copy of his butt on the office copier?
Obviously, this iPad is just getting a tan, do you have any idea what the sun will do to it?
Why was this on 2 CB sites in 2 days?
It’s a test for anal retentives.
I KNEW there was a better way to back up my iPad!
…HONEY!! I told you there was a print feature!
Too bad. This could almost work. The HP scanner, by removing the white platen, allows scanning of negatives and slides, by transmitted light. Trouble is, the size is restricted to 35mm slides and negatives–possibly 2 1/4 square. So the sensor that could read a larger image is there, but not enabled.
Well, at least it might work with an iPod touch, then….
Someone told me I had to hit ctrl+c to copy this. I can’t find ctrl+c on this stupid machine!.
Why do office parties that include alcohol always seem to end with making embarrassing pictures of various body parts on the copier? Duplicates will circulate around the entire ofice next week with people snickering and making comments about the iPad like “Just look at that blank expression on its face!”
It definitely won’t work:

This picture should be moved to the thereifakedit website instead.
Steve says you don’t need to print from an iPad, so you don’t need to print. End of story.
The iPad is a kluge, just like the Macbook Air without even doing anything to it. Steve please just work on making Macbooks more affordable and you will have been more useful than you have in years.
More affordable? Hell no! Then more people will buy them, and they’ll start to become as crappy as Windows computers. No, what Apple needs to do is start innovating again. A sealed-in battery on a computer is hardly innovative!
Ya know, this is pretty much this generation’s version of photocopying your butt.
I prefer more “Animal House” like behavior. These damn young people…
New for your I-products…. the I-tan
The correct approach to printing on the iPad is the following:
1) Photograph the iPad screen using the camera on your iPhone
2) Email the picture from your iPhone, to your Macbook
3) Print out picture on your Macbook.
The blonde is making a copy of a rough draft. Because there is White-Out on the screen.
Hey, it’s analog AND it’s wireless.
Remember that old blond joke about the white-out on the monitor screen? I’m just sayin….
Ups! Sorry, Eric, didn’t see yer post. Ya beat me to it!!
It’s also on MthruF: http://mthruf.com/2010/04/16/job-fails-iprinting-win/
Can’t imagine it would turn out well. Light is not a copier’s friend.
Try xeroxing a mirror some time. It’s entertaining to say the least.
Who ever said the iPad didn’t print? Ever heard of bluetooth?
Then again, I guess this considered a wireless printer too.
and now, with the ipad, e-readers have reached a whole different level of paper-like realism.
