Had to do the same thing on a Jeep in 1986 in Germany, the Army was too cheap to just fix the wipers.

I actually had to do something like this one time. I was driving home from college and the driver side wiper stopped working. I ties a cord to the wiper that was working to puul it right and ran a cord through the vent window. (I had a 74 VW Bug at the time.) to pull the wiper back to the left. I did this for about 150 miles. Great fun!

I followed for about 10 miles some idiot who did this in a spring snow storm back in the 80′s
Not easy to drive while hand operating your wipers

did this once with a 1950 studebaker 1 1/2 ton truck, driving through downtown chicago in pouring rain…worked quite well…better than rain-x or tobacco pouch…

Actually, when I was 16 I had a car that required manual string pulling, or the wipers, at least the driver’s side, would flop over the side view mirror and twitch spasticaly.

I still remember the pointing and laughing as my high school peers in thier daddy-bought Mustangs laughed at me and I push started my 20 year old car and work my wipers with a string.

It’s character building, right?
