Lovely semantics and all, but it makes you seem like a junior high student who just discovered how to combine philosophy and contrariness.

Obviously the lack of wall was there before the wall or the tree. But really, all of your replies have been very clever. How’s that being clever bit working out for you?

Agreed, a hole isn’t so much a thing as it is an absence of obstruction. Therefore, there was nothing (in other words a hole) here before there was the branch going through it, or the rest of the wall surrounding it.
