Fixer Czernobog says, “No one would have believed, in the first years of the 21st century, that human affairs were being watched from the traficless Arizona byroads. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life in Arizona. And yet, from their hiding places under bits of dried wood, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us.”

  1. Alexandrea says:

The mailbox is actually a magical portal from Middle Earth, where small Ents come from when they are bad and sent to time-out on a deserted Arizona road. NO ONE was supposed to see this happening… argh.

  2. ck159 says:

    …but mailmen are?

  3. Dogmeat says:

Most mailboxes are allowed to grow a bit taller before they are plucked and pruned for use. Some impatient person uprooted this one as soon as it broke the surface and just haphazardly threw it as is along side of the road. How tacky!

  4. Dogmeat says:

    Sally…is that you?

  5. slapch0p says:

The new line of arachnid- based mailboxes are a big hit in the Southwest.

  6. Fluffy says:

It’s a visual illusion. That mailbox=shaped-thing is on the other side of the road, and the ent is on this side of the road. If you squint you can see the spaceship.

  7. herds789 says:

Why did the mailbox cross the road?

  8. bunggo says:

    Swing and a miss…

  9. eowyn_2 says:

Where is this? It looks like Glade Park, Colorado.

  10. dono1 says:

This had the mailman stumped so he decided it wood be better to leave deliveries for this address to the branch of the post office that handles their rural root.

  11. Czernobog says:

  12. waldo says:

Gravel road. New mailbox. I hope cowboys appreciate artwork.

    • Anna Rexia says:

It’s not a gravel road. It’s an older, asphalt road. And, judging by the type of driftwood, the cedar trees, hilly terrain and overall background, this looks like the Texas hill country, north-northwest of Austin. It’s beautiful up that way.

      • dono1 says:

I spoke with Greg Geil and he said it’s a Hollywood sound stage. The background is a green-screen, the driftwood is made of a high-polymer plastic and the green bush to the right is actually Danny DeVito. All that aside, it *is* beautiful.

        • Anna Rexia says:

He wrote further down in this thread that the picture was taken in Erath County, Texas. Though closer to Fort Worth than Austin, I was right in it being in the Texas hill country, and it is north-northwest of Austin.

          neener. :p

  13. Entwife says:

Aw, poor little Enting…it has lost its parents (and its way back to Middle Earth) and must now rely on mailboxes for food.

  14. Chris says:

Looks like he’s trying to blend modern day conveniences with the local environment, or possibly he was too cheap to buy a post for the mailbox.

  15. awsome! says:

    oka that is awsome!

  16. fordprefect says:

That seems like a long way for a piece of driftwood to walk.

  17. Alleycat says:

I was standin’ on the corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
    It’s a….ent? With a…. mailbox?
Slowin’ down to take a look at me

  18. Gregg Geil says:

This photo was taken in Erath County, Texas. (For real.) Maybe, some life form was told told to go to Earth and monitor us, but it found itself in Erath by mistake.

  19. Mercator says:

Your basic Arachnid warrior isnt too smart, but you can blow off a limb, and its still 86 percent combat effective. Heres a tip: Aim for the mailbox, and put it down for good.

  20. Michael Bay presents: The Two Towers

  21. Thadius says:

Experiment 7: Reviving previously living wood is a partial success. I have yet to see roots or leaves form, but the wood does seem to be returning to its ‘original’ form.

  22. harper says:

An Enting! Clearly someone must have found the Entwives…

  23. Hapqy says:

    Peaseblossom? Is that you?

  24. That Guy says:

What exactly is the kludge here? Hiding your ugly mailbox tripod under a bunch of sticks? I don’t get it.

  25. hoosierpeach says:

    uh….that would be Entling, not baby Ent. ;}

  26. kthx says:

It’s in Australia. That explains everything.

  27. notanengineer says:

I think it’s probably the the first reported case of a carnivorous mailbox.

P.S.: plz look at the “submitted by” tag: Gregg Geil … he would be considered as a stud or p***star in Germany ( another Version of the willie stroker fail, perhaps?!?) :-P

  28. Frozenc says:

AHHHHH!! Skeksis!! Someone find a gelfling!

  29. Wolfenpilot687 says:

    This is a TF2 turret.

  30. Chris says:

So…where’s the fail in this, other than perhaps the metal pipes forming the basis of the structure not being strong enough for a decent mailbox? Other than that, it’s just another driftwood/found-object sculpture that’s a useful item.

  31. KiraJenLove says:

It looks like a Landstrider from The Dark Crystal – with too many legs!

  32. majo says:

texas….. its in texas…. *sobs* someone help me

  33. thats the smallest flag i’ve ever seen !! is that USPS regulation ??

  34. Airin says:

I don’t know whats the scariest thing about this pic because before I scrolled down I #1 knew it was from Arizona even with the lack of big saguaro cactus #2 know it’s probably from the Prescott valley area and #3 I think I know who’s mailbox this is.
