  1. Allie says:

Oh come on, we’ve all* done that. I wouldn’t call that epic.

    *by “all” I mean me

  2. Soon says:

    Not much of a kludge…

    • treborx says:

Agreed. It’s common practice in older buildings to run wire in conduit on the wall surface where the cost of upgrading or adding wiring and keeping it inside the wall is prohibitive. Next

  3. Dogmeat says:

Huh? What is the caption talking about? What wiring chameleon? I don’t see anything…just a wall with a chair rail. Is it a metaphor? Somebody throw me a freakin’ bone here!!

  4. Hmm says:

Once stifled on the cattle range, the Texas Longhorn rack finally has the courage to realize its lifelong dream.

  5. uike says:

It works, didn’t see it at first.

  6. Pat says:

    The color matching is exquisite.

  7. yolanda says:

It’s how you paint it! Many older buildings were built without electricity and this is actually a nicer form of conduit run. Also, as the other poster said, adding wire can be prohibitively expensive if you have to tear down whole walls, especially lathe and plaster, so it just makes sense to run conduit. It’s legal to code as long as the wires are wrapped in metal conduit and when you paint it, you match it to the surface below for minimal visual disturbance. At least it’s not that spiral pleated aluminum stuff used these days. That stuff is ugly. I have a run of it along my stairs here.

  8. eClipse says:

Just good old Wiremould being used as God intended. No kludge here…

  9. Dogmeat says:

“Ninja wire, blend!” commanded the sensei. His best pupil instantly disappeared from view, not even requiring shadows to demonstrate his stealth. The apprentice had studied the art of Ninjouletsu for many years. So it was that just as quickly as his skills had been displayed, the student had surpassed his master.

  10. Thadius says:

    If it was a snake…

…Why do I suddenly feel the urge to make a wiring chameleon snake?

  11. herds789 says:

Must have been photoshopped. This could never happen.

  12. slapch0p says:

I guess my only question about this is, “Why bother?”

    • kc/cc says:

All I can come up with is a tiny bit of constructive criticism: someone should please invest in a small artists’ paintbrush. But honestly, the person who took this picture may, in fact, have been the first to notice. And if it is the crummy painting technique that gave them pause, well, that’s not even scratching the surface in this ol’ world.

      • Sam says:

It would be better to use masking tape to get an even edge. You wouldn’t get even coverage and it would be time consuming to use a tiny brush.

  13. Pimpasaur says:

    uh… what wire?

  14. LockSmithHustla says:

nice saddle bend. This electrician deserves a cookie

  15. herds789 says:

Isn’t someone supposed to screen these pics?

  17. justmefjs says:

So this is what happens when you cross a dog with a spider, and it gets worms. Carpet cleaner isn’t going to help here.

  18. Eric says:

That’s pretty standard for Wiremold (that’s the name of the electrical raceway product). If you can’t fish the wire thru the wall, you mount the wiremold on the wall and fish the wire thru that. And then you paint it so it’s less noticeable. Standard operating procedure. Very very common on old structures where bracing inside the wall prevents wire from being routed inside.

  19. clover says:

omg that is a majorly fail
