My favourite flavor
I remember my first circuitry experiment.
9 volt or 12 ?
All I remember is a shock and a soot smear on the living room wall.
Oooh, I think I read about this in the last issue of MAKE magazine!
The kludger of this may be 100% proud of his work.
If I wedged the money spent on this regarding buying an extension coord at K-Mart vs. buying an IPhone and replacing the interior with custom 110V electronics I wouldn’t exactly “flash” it around so to speak.
That was a long way to go for a flashy joke.
that’s not an iphone.
Curiously strong, indeed!
Darn, I wanted to be the first to make that reference.
Electrifyingly curious at that.
ps @ moderator: The tin is from the cinnamon variety.
Over time, April Fools’ Day got out of hand at the office. Used to be, someone would just offer you a can of peanuts, and a harmless toy snake would spring out. Then one day, someone replaced it with a real rattler, and well, you see how we got here. Still trying to figure out who did that one thing to the water cooler…
I believe that’s actually cinnamon…
The most delightful scent fills the room as this heats up…
My thoughts exactly.
I can tell you right now that extention is not up to code…. No ground wire on the receptical or plug. A fire just waiting to happen when it shorts out!!!
And when they investigate the cause of the fire, everyone will agree it was an open and shut case.
Tin thousand watts?
This is how old electricians celebrate their retiremints.
EPIC FAIL.
first of all, as PosterGrampa said, no ground wire.
second of all, the tin could be conductive, bad idea
third, that wiring looks kind of small.
All in all, a fire could start any second.
Epic fail at kludge
forgot this.

Does this guy have 5 fingers, or 6?
My name is Iñigo Montoya. You killed my Father. Prepare to die.
I think it’s an ASCII Picard facepalm…
In any case, it would be five fingers.
Go on, Timmay. Take one of my mints NOW. i dare you….
the NEC states a candy tin may be used in lieu of a proper gang box when the inspector deems the life of the user expendable.

This was made by my brother. He claims it is safe to use (I plugged it in for a little bit and it works, but I sure as hell wouldn’t trust it.)
PS it is cinnamon.
Yay!
Electroshock ther*Zap!*
Ouch!
That was shocking…
I love these thought processes:
“I need a plug, and the only thing electrical around is an extension cord running over some cardboard fire hazards. I’ll just splice the outlet in there. A little duct tape and nothing can go wrong.”
OHM my, this is a very AMPle kludge, if I do say so myself.
And don’t worry, I just slapped myself for saying that…
Watt you talking about?
You’ve got my volt.
You should be charged for using a pun like that.
*KKKKZZZZARRRGHBZZZBZZ* mmm…. minty
I don’t get it, Toast, Volt are you trying to say?
Makes me feel all tingly, just looking at it.
(Also: *selfslap* for previous post)
Actually the brown edging indicates these were chocolate-covered. Either cinnamon or ginger. Thusly, you could say they were insulated with a spicy interior? Yummy dark-chocolate insulation….

Well, I’m not sure that 110 volts applied to one’s body could be considered *spontaneous* combustion, but otherwise legalese WIN.
But how to get all that on such a tiny box? Oh, that’s right, just use Flyspeck 3-point.
I put this together about 4 years ago & I used it! (The box is lined with electrical tape…)
BTW, this cinnamon has a new “bite” to it!
Magic box converts 110V to anything you may want 115V 15A, 115V 20A, 208V or 208V 30A. Where can I get one? And while we are at it a 110V vintage replacement plug. This is not a fire hazard it is an electronic tech’s next pay day.
and to think
i bad solder connection=BOOM!!!
That was a curiously strong shock
When geocaching goes horribly wrong…
Actually… it’s cinnamon.
(Look closely)
… I’m an Altoids junkie. I know these things.
I have always had a problem with people wanting my mints. With very few offers and our old friend classical conditioning, my Altoids will be safe from moochers.
The only cinnamon in the world where the bite is worse than the bark.
Well played, SludgeMunkey.
Hmmmmm Minty electrocution, it’s all I’ve ever wanted.
it’s CINNAMON Altoids. See the ‘NN’ between the sockets? The color of the tin is also definitive.
I offer them around as ‘pain pills’. Not cure, cause. I guess that makes them algesics.
Which is what unrestrained electrons are in the human body.
Regardless of whether those Altoids are cinnamon or mint, I think they overcharged him.
Introducing the new Altoids electic flavour. You are going to die for trying them.

Ever!
I once found the following while removing carpet in my home: the previous owner had installed a heating pad beneath the carpet (presumably for a dog), running the leads into the intake area for the furnace which was adjacent. Upon opening the grille to the intake, I found that he had spliced into the electrical power for the furnace and, for real, used a campbells soup can for a j-box.
That’s a surefire way to not having to worry about your stinky breath anymore, but maybe overkill?
Now to test it with Strident!
15 amps of freshness.
Altoids NOW IN ! SHOCKING FLAVOR
no but seriously talk about a shocking experience
I woulda been more impressed had they used a tic-tacs box
“Please note that any appearance of danger is merely a device to enhance your breath-freshening experience.”
I double-dog-dare you to unplug me now ! ! !
Even worse that an old style (1940s) receptacle was used. Makes it too easy for someone to shove a 220v plug in there with the ground pin busted off.
I cant believe it. The girl whi thinks that watching ppl beeing zapt is hilarious… does not get this kludge
