» 49 Kludgers Kludging

  1. Jenny says:

Poster must be Harry Potter :3

  2. Pat says:

Eh, this looks more like a work in progress than a kludge.

  3. DIY King says:

Daniel cleverly found a way around being unable to reach door handles and checking the lagging on the pipes.

  4. Wayne says:

It looks like they sawed off the bottom part of a standard 6-panel door so it could fit in the wall below the stairs. I don’t think the stuff inside the “closet” is significant.

  5. Marvin says:

Special doorknob, for very very VERY short people?

  6. gloworm says:

Looks more like clever use of all available space in the house (and plumbing access) to me.

  7. Monty says:

Do you guys see they sawed of one third of the door to make it fit?

  8. Mel says:

You found the room of Harry Potter.

  9. PiddlyD says:

Yup. Stone covered I-Beam in the water park, not a kludge. Door cut off right below the door-knob to fit a dormer area – kludge. This looks horrible.

    • husabob says:

Not a dormer; concrete floor and poured kneewall suggests a basement. probably it’s only purpose is to enclose and hide the pipe. Half assed kludge at best.

  10. Conanarama says:

It took me a moment to notice the bottom of the door was sawed off. Haha!

  11. JB says:

They should have cut to top part to get rid of the small inserts instead of the bottom. That way the door knob would have been in the middle and reachable without kneeling…

    • Kissamies says:

Maybe they were too lazy to rearrange the hinges or something. Even in that case, it would probably have been better to saw off the bottom rather than the top.

    • EF IN.TX says:

Likely it was a pre-hung door, so to avoid thinking through rehanging it, they just cut off the bottom frame and all.

  12. JB says:

Ho! That’s from being John Malkovich movie!

  13. Dogmeat says:

This concept was taken from a rough draft of the first Chronicle of Narnia…initially entitled ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Weird Door Underneath the Stairs’.

  14. baudelaire says:

The other third of the doorway leads to HELL!!

  15. Whynot says:

The only kindness the Dursleys ever showed young Harry was to place the doorknob within reach when he was but a toddler.

  16. waldo says:

Go inside, close the door and pipe down.

  17. Prang says:

Like, whoa man… I’m having a seeeeeerious acid flashback man…

  18. Freon says:

This door has something to do with the Philladelphia Experiment but I can’t quite put it all together.

  19. dono1 says:

Looks like a lot of work just to have a place to store a power adapter and a furnace filter.

  20. dmmcintyre3 says:

Look’s like Thereifixedit.com’s new server closet.

  21. Sharpie says:

Nice to see a door with a knob that a three-year-old can reach. Shame it leads to possibly the only place in the house you really wouldn’t want a three-year-old to get into.

  22. lovejones says:

This property is listed as having 4bdrms, 3bath, and 8 and a half doors.

  23. Danny says:

“I told the guy driving the Cement truck ‘whoa, that’s plenty’, but he just farted and kept on pouring”

  24. Anna Rexia says:

These things happen when you hire an architect who likes to drop acid and watch Alice in Wonderland</i" too often.

  25. Jason Warlock says:

Maybe its not a short door so much as REALLY tall carpet.

  26. dono1 says:

A hotel? Forget that! Your mom can stay with us… in the spare room downstairs.

  27. Emerson says:

It’s a small storage area under some stairs. I don’t see what’s so special about this.

  28. Bridge says:

Room for rent: cozy, well irrigated, can lock door for privacy. Looking for male age 18-25 who needs place for college. Must have own light bulb, no parties allowed. $200/month, call 555-555-5555.

  29. Maggie says:

Stairs (to right of door) reach a landing and then turn left. No problem with that. But why did they cut off the BOTTOM of the door, leaving the knob so low? Should have cut from the top of the door, and finished raw edge with strip of wood or veneer. This is a kludge – I bet the guy measured from the wrong end of the door and ended up with this (and didn’t want to move the hardware, etc). Remember the saying “measure Twice, cut once.” This is what happens when you measure once. . .

  30. Diver Doug says:

Actually, it’s an entrance/exit for Verne “Mini Me” Troyer ! :-)

  31. niners says:

OMG!! How are people suposed to get in there? Your suposed to have the top cut off!! hahahahhahahahaha. We’re not that lil

  32. herds789 says:

Oh no, grandma got out again!

  33. jghi says:

Is the room getting smaller…or is Willie Wonka getting bigger?

  34. jeff says:

Door knob doubles as door stop
