I don’t get it. What is this junk?
A homemade fishing reel
Something sure seems fishy about that there contraption!
The picture must have been taken in Denmark.
Let’s hope so or there won’t be dinner.
I guess he’s gonna start wheeling them in now.
Win! I love this one.
Giving a new meaning to the phrase “fish on a bicycle”.
Just goes to show you can tuna piano, but you can’t tuna…bicycle?
When you hook ‘em. Just wheel ‘em in.
I’m hooked on this wheely good idea.
What’s most disturbing is that I was going to wear that same outfit today.
You’re from Denmark?
How can you tell by the guy’s clothing that this was taken in Denmark? I’m genuinely curious.
*Clearly* because the Danish people are known for wearing jazzy and yet practical ensembles, as well as for their willingness to fish off any platform extending over any given body of water, using whatever equipment they manage to piece together for this purpose, to catch whatever may turn up…
I mean, that’s the word on the street, that’s all. *Ahem.*
So THAT is what you use to catch Lutefisk!
That’s actually pretty ingenious. Kind of like a hillbilly Alvey reel. Imagine the torque you could get for reeling in the big ones! Casting could prove difficult, however.
It may be just as well to throw the whole thing into the river and start over, anyway.
He’s fishing from a bridge. No need to cast, just drop the line into the river.
A smaller wheel with larger crank would provide more torque. This contraption would provide far less.
There is no crank, just handles attached to the wheels. It’s a 1:1 ratio and that is higher torque than any reel I ever heard of.
A handle IS a crank, bongster. The torque is determined by the size of the wheel and the distance of the handle from center.
Torque would be awful. Speed would be fabulous.
Hmmm, just what I need for fishing off the cliff at Fingal.
I’ve heard of a big wheel before, but never a big reel.
Now HE is a master of trolling!
I can’t quite see- is he wearing a FISHSTRONG bracelet?
Thats one big centerpin reel, the conrol he has must be amazing.
It’s a vicious cycle.
Oh, he is fishing. It took me a while to see it. A fishing rod. lol
Is he trying to catch the fail whale?
Give a man a fishing pole, and he can fish for life. Show a man how to make a fishing pole, and hilarity ensues.
Finally beefed up my equipment enough to get that big ole sucker up to the bridge, but had to cut him loose, cause I couldn’t get him through the dang pickets.
maybe it could transform into a bicycle too? just wheel in your catch of the day and then cycle back home
Proportionally, shouldn’t a reel like this be attached to a rod the size of an old telephone pole or something?
This photo needs a caption like a fish needs a bicycle wheel.
Great invention but no fish yet. Maybe he spoke too soon.
Reel clever, go pedal your puns somewhere else.
What, can’t Lance have some fun when he’s not winning the Tour?
Now he just needs a bigger boat.
A homemade fishing pole from things left around to rust and get in the way.
You don’t get it. The picture explains how Shimano evolved from bicycles to spinning reels
He accidentally dialed the bicycle parts department at Shimano and they misunderstood him when he asked for a “replacement reel”.
When I first saw this I loved it, but I think I love it even more having looked closer — is it just me, or does he have the handbrake hooked up to control the drag?
Relive it or not. We use to use a hand crank reel that was first made from a bicycle. Of course they called the “bicycle rigs “and were used to fish for Red snapper in the gulf of Mexico. Later on they evolved into reels than did not have Real bicycle parts on them. But the principle was the same
lol how clever!
People that have nothing, develop a productive imagination, that lets them build something useful out of junk. Congratulations to the man!
