I wonder what the purpose is for building a fence three inches from the house anyways.

    • Sarge says:

I was thinking that myself. But then I realized that the fnece must have been built before the house was there, and later the house got moved onto the lot. If you’ll notice, the house isn’t attached to a basement, it’s just sitting on blocks.

Still, why the hell they cut a hole in the fence where the window is instead of just removing that whole section of fencing is beyond me. Sure must make washing the siding a pain in the butt.

    • Kenoscope says:

Either it is the Property line, or Easement line. If you own a house, you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, you don’t need to.

  3. George says:

It looks like a new addition to the house…nicely done, except for the fence. It also looks like the fence has been there for a while

  4. Fanboy Wife says:

Was the fence or the building constructed first?

  5. ConchordsFan says:

Why didn’t they just start the fence at the other corner anyway? (stupid zoning codes?)

  6. hotclaws says:

    Bad fences make good neighbours?

  7. JustinJames says:

It would be really hard to paint that side of the house. Maybe they will just cut more fence when it’s time to touch up that bright blue.

  8. dono1 says:

I guess they can no longer advertise it as Room & Board.

  9. JB says:

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

  10. pokemonruler says:

in attempt to spy on thier neighbors, the Clausons built a fence in front of thier window, so the nieghbors wouldnt notice them watching. Unfortunately, the fence resrticted sight so much, that the Clausons decided to replace the a section of thier fence in front of the window with one-way invisible fence. But when they opened the packaging to the invisi-fence, they realized they ordered the TWO-way invisi-fence by mistake. the Clausins thought they were screwed enough, and when they finally made enough money to order the one-way invisi-fence, and put it up, their neighbors got anooyed at the constant construction and moved out. Poor Clausins.

  11. RusFixer says:

The window’s now missing some nice stairs and a happy “Welcome thieves!” banner.

now the Neighbor big dog won’t tair off the siding

  16. elderwitty says:

I figure the fence is to keep the house from sliding into the neighbor’s yard.

  17. Leo Lichtman says:

I’d like to see how they painted the side of the house.

  18. BoringTroll says:

The fence is by a curb. Perhaps by an alley or driveway.

Look at the roof line. That thing is a shed, not part of the house. Looks like the fence was there a long time before the shed.

It looks like the shed was built somewhere else, and delivered to the site, prepainted. The foundation seems to be a few piles of bricks. I wonder when they’re going to get around to putting in the front step.

    • Anna Rexia says:

Where do you live in which people build fireplaces in sheds?

      • BoringTroll says:

The shed has a pitched roof. Rainwater will flow down both towards the fence and towards the house. If there is no gap between the house and the shed, then there will be a serious problems every time it rains. We must assume the two buildings are not connected.

      • dono1 says:

You made me curious so I took a closer look. There’s a curb in the lower left of the photo so the fence faces a street. Although it looks like one structure, there are clues indicating that they are separate from one another. If you look above the door you can see the peak of the roof of the shed and a little bit of the other side of the roof line going down. The siding on the shed runs horizontal and the siding on the house runs vertical. The bottom part of the chimney is behind the shed’s roof, not through it, and the roof line of the house to the left of the chimney ends well beyond the roof of the shed. My guess? They acquired a shed and slid it in between the house and the fence, then cut the fence down so they’d be able to see out the shed’s window. There’s probably an ordinance that requires the fence to remain in place.

        • Anna Rexia says:

Great points, guys! (Sorry to assume you’re both male, but I’ll take my chances). Y’all are right. Looking closer, thanks to you two, I can see a downward bit of roofline and the eave underneath it. That really IS going to cause problems when it rains, not to mention the resulting molds and the wood of both the side of the shed and the fence will rot a lot faster. Maybe they could cut down the rest of the fence and paint the shed to look like part of the fence?

          • kc/cc says:

Judging from the bottom front of the shed, not to mention the (de) construction and location of the fence, I think this is not a homeowner worried about staving off the advance of mold and wood rot. Bright blue paint is a great distraction, though, if you can find the leftover can for touch-ups.

  20. Guillaume says:

They built an attachement to the house … that’s why the fence is so near and also why there’s no basement underneath it…

  24. Lurker says:

Unfortunately, he only learned that he owned both sides of the line AFTER building his spite fence.

  25. waldo says:

    Curbside drainage works wonders.

  26. Crisco_Britches says:

    Several things about the house would lead you to think they weren’t really getting the big picture;

    1. The way the side shed addition was added with a chimney that goes up through the main part of the house roof at the eave.

    2. The railing outside the door.

I don’t think the house location is a temporary thing. If it were, why cut the fence out. Like others, why they didn’t remove a section of the fence is odd.

  27. Bridge says:

  33. monkeyberry says:

Does anyone else notice that the grass appears to be spray painted?!? With a sweet fence like that, you need a nice lawn to compete, I guess.

    • Anoxos says:

That isn’t uncommon in dry parts of the country where you aren’t permitted to water the lawn in the summer. Rather than face a fine for watering, or the ugly dead grass, some folks either lay down astroturf, or pay to have their lawns periodically spray-painted during the dry season.

  34. überRegenbogen says:

How about just ending the fence at the edge of the building? Even if the fence came first, removing a secont of fence would be less work that doing that to it. (And it would look considerably less funky.)
