They forgot to put a swing seat on that verandah.

This actually looks awesome for tailgating, etc.

    LongBus, now with smoking area

  4. Paranoimia says:

Am I alone in thinking that is VERY cool? It’s like an RV with a built-in patio.

    • Clay says:

Love it. A cheap hauler. Track day transport, atv hauler, jet ski camp vehicle. It has huge potential. And school buses are cheap. Think the neighbors will mind a black school bus parked in front of the house? Yeah, that’s what I thought you’d say.

    • überRegenbogen says:

You’re not alone at all. This kicks ass! Lots of uses for a hauler with lots of cabin space. It’s an industrial strength crew-cab. :D

  5. julia K says:

It’s a short bus…that gives rides to hitchhiking cars?

  6. tw says:

I nominate the new site design as a kludge.

  7. Luke says:

I’ve seen busses like this used by rafting companies. After all you can pick up a used buss for a few thousand verses 40-50K for a new truck.

    • kunkmiester says:

Where? I looked around a while back, and couldn’t find one for that little–both local in St Louis, and online.

        eBay my friend… eBay.

I picked up a late 80′s 40 foot GMC RTS (transit bus) for about $3,000. Recently rebuilt engine and transmission. The damn thing will outlive me.

I don’t know about using a school bus for this kind of application. They’re not really designed for the pulling power of the bigger ones. Mine has a DD6v92TA + Allison 3 speed. I put my car on a trailer behind it, and barely knew it was there. I had to keep checking for the shadow following me (mine’s 8.5′ wide. My car is about 6′ wide). Of course, you can’t just chop the back out to be a patio, being the engine is in the rear and all. I don’t mind the lack of engine noise when I’m driving though.

  8. duffro says:

You guys don’t get to the circle track races much. Every 3rd car shows up on one of these.

    • Anna Rexia says:

I was thinking it was something like that. I was trying to see where the ramps attach, but apparently the mount points are out of frame. I really miss the short tracks and dirt ovals.

  9. Jilly says:

I liked the kludgey ballpoint graphics on the old site. :(

  10. Sue says:

The “bus” is for the band. The extension is for the roadies.

  11. A Random Pooka says:

I posted a comment earlier, which was apparently eaten by the new site design. Go figure.

    Anyway, awesome bus!

  12. Adam says:

Disgruntled Timmies sought to lose their “Short Bus” reputation…

Elementary school for both children and horses.

  14. Schneiderman says:

    That is a sweet bus…

  15. Fanboy Wife says:

“I want a girl with a short skirt and a loooooooooooong bus!”

  16. Pendor says:

I don’t think that’s not an extension. It’s a normal school bus with the back wall cut out, moved forward, and welded back in place. So you get a smaller enclosed space up front, and something resembling a pick-up bed in the back. You could probably add a ramp on the back, drive a compact car up there, and have a rather functional touring RV.

    I rather like it.

  17. dono1 says:

Wow. I haven’t traveled by bus in a long time but I had no idea there was such a vast difference between First Class and Coach.

  18. Tego says:

That would actually be really good for something like a white water rafting business. Clients up front with the rafts mostly protected in back, but still readily accessible. Also I’m not sure this is really a Kludge. it looks like a decent amount of effort was put into making it look and function well

    • kc/cc says:

And if the river’s too low for white water rafting this season, just put everyone on a raft in back and ride ‘em around awhile— still a thrill a minute. Still could use a helmet, too.

  19. jefe says:

I like the clever adaptation of the rub/bump/reinforcing strip at the roofline where the cabin disappears…

  20. Craig T says:

I think there are two hacks here:

First, a regular-sized bus was cut down to a short one with a short bed.

    Second, the bed was extended.

    This is really cool.

  21. JoeyBrill says:

This is why we mainstream out kids. Some kid on a short bus had very big dreams.

  22. Richard (with an arr!) says:

Guys, this isn’t a bus. It’s a Stretch Semi. Get it right.

  23. LordCaradoc says:

Now thats cool, they not only get to take their house wherever they go, but they take the garage too.

  24. Shimmer says:

Most pointless thing I’ve ever seen.

  25. Jim says:

Like was said above, it’s for hauling my mustang. Only it’s a drag car not a stockcar. The wife and kids won’t go to the track without a proper bathroom/kitchen/bed and I can’t afford a RV. This was $5100 complete!

  26. agidius says:

friend of mine and I came up with an idea very similar to that to take a racecar to the track.

he also lives not too far from a used bus lot.

  27. Dizzy says:

    Nice wheels.

that’s pretty decent craftsmanship, Awesome party bus.

hell you could even use it as a stage.

  28. ROop says:

    That is pretty cool!

  37. Andersonian says:

That’s my uncle’s bus. I’m being 100% serious. He took out the seats inside, and now there’s three couches. And it is completely street-legal. He uses it for demo derby cars, tractor pullers (super modified class), or 4 fourwheelers. He made it himself: he owns an auto body repair shop.

  38. Giapponese says:

No, no! You guys have it all wrong! This is typical band LongBus. The band can perform while traveling. It’s also good for parades, 4th of July concerts, and the traveling circus.

  39. Polish Wizzard says:

This was my final project in welding school.

  40. Polish Wizzard says:

  41. Kat says:

Is it weird that all I could think was that the Army uses buses this color?
