was this done to prevent the steering wheel being wrenched from the drivers hands on bad roads?
What ever floats your boat.
That will never work, he used the wrong kind of tape.
The black tape matches the steering wheel. You know, so now it looks “nice.”
They could’ve used duct tape, and then put the black electrical tape over it. If anything, that would’ve made it more secure, as well as more awesome.
If the boat comes to an abrupt stop. Would you say this is heart-wrenching?
More like GUT-wrenching.
Sometimes throwing a spanner in the works is the only thing you can do.
Since this looks like a commercial vehicle…
If the owner is wrenching the operator into a bad situation, just think how he’s screwing the customers!
Emergency room surgeon, upon viewing badly injured boater after a collision: “We have to do open heart massage on this man. Wrench!”
Surgical Assistant: “It’s in there.”
(riff on an old Prego spaghetti sauce commercial )
I’m lost. Which way do I turn, lefty loosey or righty tighty?
Since it uses gas wouldn’t the threads go the other way?
HUH?
How the heck did they manage to break the steering wheel? That can’t possibly be safe to drive now.
That was my first question, too. But then I decided it’s only important that they “fixed” it.
Believe it or not, I’ve been on that boat. It’s an Icelandic glacier tour company’s craft, and the steering wheel is fine. They’ve just taped some frequently used tools to the steering wheel for easy access. More of a toolbox kludge than a steering wheel kludge.
IMHO, that would be easy access without having any actual convenience. But at least I could prove I had tools along for the trip.
I was scared until I realized this is a boat, not a big truck. At least it’s less likely to kill me when it crashes.
And idea what kind of vehicle this is?
Kludgemobile?
Its an old Army LARC V amphibian. Big diesel engine, aluminum hull, about 35 feet long and weighs 30 thousand pounds loaded. Some body has done a bunch of work on it though. It has power steering. And oddly enough, they broke as many steering wheels they did U joints. I was in the Army when they were new and they broke within months of being put into svc. The steering wheels broke because they have no suspension and bounce all over hell. The death grip on the steering wheel is important to stay in the cab.
Gilligan!!!!!
SKIPPER!!!!
Does OSHA know about this?
It’s obvious that at least one member of the Department of Transportation’s steering committee had a screw loose.
not a screw, a bolt. unless they were just nuts.
You’re officially my hero for that inspired punful statement. xD
If you can drive a wrench, you can drive a Dodge.
I’d hate to see their take on the stick-shift.
Is that Santa driving?
I don’t think this is a steering wheel repair. I think he is keeping wrenches in a handy place.
looks like the pump on a fire engine, i think the wrenchs have been taped there for emergency repairs.
yeah, so you can fix while you drive!!!
This is all to secure the nut behind the wheel.
Or the tape-happy tool…
It’s driving me nuts! XD
I really think he should have used a 3/4″. His 5/8″ just won’t do!
“The dealer told me it would tighten my turning radius.”
I could have sworn this guy was McGyver. (watches he intro over and over and over…….)
See how the wrench at the 10 o’clock position is 2 long? That’s cause he used a standard wrench on a metric wheel.
How dumb, they used SAE wrenches on a european truck…
silly fix.
