Countdown to unhinged jokes in 3…2…1
seriously, though. This is a total win. I’ve had laptops with hinge issues and this would totally work.
Apples newest line, the eye-Poke.
Pure brilliance
Two thumbs-up!
Thumbs up is good. Thumbs sideways, they may get caught underneath that slider thingie.
LOL at first I thought someone else posted a picture of what I did to my girlfriend’s laptop. Her hinge broke and I fixed it with the same slider and everything.
Check closely – maybe you recognize that laptop…
Steampunk satirests will never learn
that is a win
All it’s missing is replacing the plastic with wood.
You know, I think a nicely crafted wooden laptop would be too cool.

I like it. Very steampunk-like. that and probably will last longer than the OEM hinge. Add some sort of screw-lock and you can keep the display locked any which way you want(open, closed).
Nothing like rounding out a new year, and a new decade, by fixing last century’s gear on the latest technology.
I highly doubt that this laptop still qualifies as the latest tech. But true, I hear you.
why is there only 1 of the hinges… couldnt they afford 2
Ironically, the plug looks like it’s not all right, too.
Excelent… I had the same compaq with exactly that screen problem
Old Compaqs had hinge clutch issues. I had a small ball chain keeping mine at a usuable angle. Nice fix!
Really old Hitachi’s did too.
My old Gateway had hinge problems too. I went the old-fashioned route and used plain old duct tape to keep the screen up. On top of that, the power supply was connected with paperclips and there was also some duct tape holding the hard drive in. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures.
Yep, duct tape does fix everything.
i didn’t know why, i was working fine before i put the screw?
Computer hardware available at Home Depot, aisle five.
This is a kludge for the truly unhinged.
I can’t believe it , I’m sitting in front of my laptop with a similar fixture (although I used some tape )
here it is , notice the fine tape work on the left to keep the whole thing together

I wish I had thought of something like this. I just taped my old laptop to the wall and threatened it with fire if it didn’t stay stuck.
Hey, I threaten my laptop with fire every morning. How else do you get it to run ‘Crysis’?
At least we know their hands won’t get rapped with the lid accidentally closing. We’ll leave that up to the nuns.
LOL! It’s Windows Seven compatible?
Seriously, my son and I were discussing getting his older laptop repaired for this exact problem. By the time he sends it to Dell, buys the parts pays the labor, pays shipping both ways, it’s almost makes more sense to save up a little more money and invest in a new one. I emailed this to him as a viable short term fix until he can afford the new one. Brilliant. Like Chicken Soup for a cold…It couldn’t hurt.
You can usually fix this by simply tightening the screw on the hinge. Actually getting to that screw and putting the laptop back together is another matter.
What is that actually? A door slide?
Could also be used as an external wi-fi antenna
You really should send it to a psychologist. Just look at it- it’s completely unhinged!
