After taking a close look at the picture again, I can tell you it IS fake–or photo-shopped. It is not a photograph of a fridge on top of a SmartCar. If you look closely, you can see that it is actually a real photo of a real refrigerator that has a SmartCar glued to its base.

No offense intended but….. I am married to a blonde who would try this if she wanted to move a fridge and all she had was a Smartcar. She moved a Dryer on a VW rabbit years ago.

Well…as far as the load thing, that depends on how well they take those turns. There’s a local matress sales company that as a ‘moving ad’ has an old-style VW Beetle with a stack of matresses on it as tall as the car. Granted, IIRC there’s a ‘kingpost’ through the matresses *and* the frame of the car, but still a b*tch to not roll it on corners, I’d bet. Then again, plenty of padding if it does roll..

I’ll believe it’s real and possible, but:
1) The way it’s tied, the first corner that car takes, the fridge is on the pavement.
2) Any low bridge or hanging wire is gonna make it a “bad day”.

The Mercedes safety cage is strong enough to take the load of the fridge plus a six-pack inside. I wouldn’t be driving it around, though.
