At least it is positioned so the doors will stay closed in the wind. Good thing since they don’t appear to be held closed. If the doors flopped they might lose their fridge magnets.
. . . Or cause the car to change direction.
Smart Car. Not-so-Smart Owner.
Im sure they have enough money to get it delivered.
They likely do, because where I live, smart cars are extremely expensive.
Or they *don’t*, because they spent all their money on a ‘smart’ car…
Their effort to make the smart car “cool” was misdirected.
Uh… yeah. That is a photoshop. First off, the refrigerator is grossly disproportionate to the car- that’s one skinny- arse refrigerator! Second, you can see on the windows of the van next to it how they played around to make the windows look right. Finally, just plain physics- Something THAT tall, proportionate to width, couldn’t possibly stay on the roof of a moving car around any kind of turn. Oh, and who the heck would leave the magnets on the refrigerator before moving it?
I’ll say it’s not photo-manipulated.
PS’ed for sure… And I really wanted it to be true.
There may have been something strapped to the roof of that car, but it wasn’t that ‘fridge.
May be Photoshopped, but it’s a damned impressive one.
On top of that, I’m sure someone out there is going to or has attempted this.
I used to work for a major toy outlet, and was asked at one point to strap a very large playhouse, already assembled, to the roof of a Yugo. They signed the ‘you were warned and we’re not responsible’ waiver and I did it. That said, it’s only a matter of time before someone really tries this, if it hasn’t been already.
Yeah. And there are UFOs in outer space. Wait, no, those were just the cabin lights. And, well, the moon landing was faked because the flag wouldn’t appear to be waving in outer space. Oh, wait, actually we figured that one out too. Oh, well, the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon was from a rocket because there’s no way a plane could have done that.
People like you lead sheep into getting all wee-weed up over things that just aren’t true. You might as well start teaching people kids that 2+2=5 while you’re at it.
Look at the front passenger-side window of the van, down by the side mirror. See the reflection, with the warped (due to curve of the glass) image of the refrigerator and rear hold-down strap? Photoshoppers don’t usually think to include details on that level. Besides, look in the background. That’s a liquor store. Nuff said.
IDK probably the same idiot that thought putting it on their smart was a good idea.
Well…as far as the load thing, that depends on how well they take those turns. There’s a local matress sales company that as a ‘moving ad’ has an old-style VW Beetle with a stack of matresses on it as tall as the car. Granted, IIRC there’s a ‘kingpost’ through the matresses *and* the frame of the car, but still a b*tch to not roll it on corners, I’d bet. Then again, plenty of padding if it does roll..
Wonder if that will impact its fuel economy.
Only if they filled up at Western Cellars.
It will definitely impact the fuel economy of the car driving behind. Not to mention the hood and the windshield and the bumber and the grille and the headlamps.
“Finally, just plain physics- Something THAT tall, proportionate to width, couldn’t possibly stay on the roof of a moving car around any kind of turn.”
Carrots, that’s why it’s a fail.
Lag bolts- that baby ain’t going anywhere…
And, as they use 5′ bolts, neither does the car.
Can’t be real because Smart Cars come with a huge sunroof right where the fridge would be sitting…
The sunroof is an option. There are three versions: one with no frills and no sunroof, one with sunroof, and a ragtop. This is the basic version. If you’d looked it up, you would know that. Please change your name to dumbass, mmkay?
I can only rely to the versions we had of that generation of the Smart here in Germany, but over here those wheels came with the version called “pulse”, which came with a glass-/sunroof unless you specificly said that you did not want it. But, like I said, I can only rely on the german versions.
That being said, I might add that it is not my intention to make someone look dumb or even call dumb, not even between the lines, ok?
Hey! You’ve gotta put your beer somewhere, don’t you? Wait a minute, where’s the really long cord plugged in back at the house?
Someone must have told them about those portable generators; a refrigerator like that could run off a rather small one, and with a bit of luck it might fit in the trunk. Or maybe they’re using an inverter off the car battery.
Bugaga)))
The car is so small I have to use an add-on to fit the kids.
no, its not shopped, it happened that way
Hmm. Well, a fridge isn’t all that heavy, I believe that the Smart can be had with a roof rack, its padded, and its tied down to the tow hooks. Smart? Not particularly, but its not actually all that bad either. You don’t need a big-ass truck to move something, you know.
at least they knew to keep the fridge upright!
I think it might be real. Look at the white rub marks on the passenger side door.
Smart? NO! Real? YES.
I can’t WAIT for a cross wind.
It would be awesome to see that up on two wheels!

hmmmm…you’d think the refrigerator would crush the car, or that if it gets windy, it’ll flip over. Better hope nobody’s driving that..Why would someone want to be driving that anyways?
Refrigerators aren’t really all that heavy. They are mostly styrofoam and empty space, with a compressor and some coils in them. And the Smart Fortwo actually has extremely high roof strength due to the triangular shape.
Not to mention that about 50-60 percent of that weight(compressors, fans, etc..)is in the bottom 10-12 inches of the refrigerator.
And not to mention the top speed is like 5 mph.
Nah, dono, I’ve seen fridges that go 8mph.
Yeah but those have horrible Energy Star ratings.
@Mr Obvious: where the weight is doesn’t matter for the roof load, only for the center of gravity.
I want one for my living room…so I don’t have to walk to the fridge for a beer.
I get it…they really hate the car so they will use the insurance money to buy a full sized car or at least not a clown car, car
Finally! The Smart ForThree!
And here we observed the Smartis Automobilus gaining its winter coat…
The best part is that they left the magnets on there!
Only by necessity (they’re the only thing holding it to the car).
It’s an apartment-sized refrigerator, not full sized. And those may not be magnets. Anybody who’s had kids can tell you how enthusiastic they can get with stickers.
Most people just didn’t get it. That’s the dual function smart add-on: an air conditioning unit, and a cabin for the mother in law. Clever.
how did they get that up there anyway?
Bonus points to the magnets!
Awww, how cute! Your fridge is as big as your car!
Soon it’s going to be a not-so-smart wreck.
At least you can still open and close the doors after a crash:
Wonder if the sucker remembered to take out the contents of the refrigerator first…
Why would you take only the fridge with you and leave the contents at home? And how would you keep them refrigerated/frozen?
Damn, just how much booze are they buying?
And when is the party?
Chilled compartment for beverages in the car PAH! REAL MEN take the fridge with them!
Another hint why it’s the real thing: the car on the right has a reflection of the fridge which looks kinda real.
of course there a some photoshop talents out there able to shop that amazing but it’s kinda unlikely.
No second strap crossways so forget about going around corners it will fall off or tip that little car over.
This is the most intelligence I’ve seen put into something utterly stupid that I’ve seen all week!
He’s not that dumb. He’s probably moving the piece of cloth and using the fridge to keep it in place.
Snicker!
cold box to put in the new year eve turkey
One ratchet strap is plenty! They’re rated at over 200 lbs and that fridge can’t be half that weight.
I don’t think it’s a photoshop. I found another pic from a different angle. http://www.break.com/pictures/smart-car-my-ass614462.html
Well, that settles it. I’m never leaving my house again.
Seriously – if this site is going to stay reputable, it needs to eliminate the grossly manipulated photos. So far they have been great, and while I have not doubt that someone out there is dumb enough to try this, it’s obviously a fake! I agree with above – reflection in van could be anything or faked (it’s not that hard), yes possibly stickers and not magnets, and for a moment let’s not look at the tires being fully rounded and not compressed if they were under a load (it’s physics folks, and you can’t fake that). How about the simple fact that the handle assy is proportionate to the door dimensions and smaller than normal. Even if this WAS a smaller than average size fridge, the handles do not get shrunk as well! Came on folks, clean up the site for the real stupidity – there’s plenty of it out there and no need for fake garbage. Next thing we will see is a Yetti on a ladder made of milk crates!
Actually, to keep the site reputable, people need to stop yelling “PHOTOSHOPPED!!!” all the time. Of all the pictures here, how many have been proven to be fake? I can’t think of any. Refrigerators come in a variety of sizes and designs; just because it doesn’t look like the one you have doesn’t mean it’s not real. Low-profile tires, especially small ones (those are 14″ rims, at most), deform much less than regular tires. Also keep in mind that the fortwo is one of the lightest cars on the market to begin with.
I hate ‘Photoshop’ cryers with a passion. Yes, I would like to see the real deal, but funny & fake is still funny.
@Jon: Great points overall.
@MadSpark: If you want to see a Yetti on milk cartons, head over to ‘picture is unrelated.com. I’m sure it’s on there, somewhere.
Definitely not photoshopped especially given there is the link up there to another angle…
“it’s physics folks, and you can’t fake that”
My blood pressure rises when I see someone trying to prove their point by saying “hey, it’s just physics.” Anyone who has taken a physics course can tell you that there are many physics experiments out there which, at first glance, appear to defy the laws of physics.
If you want to prove that it’s not real, try it at home.
Who gives a shit?…. It’s funny, ok?
I think this belongs on ‘that will buff out’. Those stupid clown cars can fit smack dab in the bed of my F-350.
I agree, definitely on the wrong site.
Yeah, kinda like a lifeboat! Want a car to wear?
Who says you can’t take it with you?!
This is funny; too many people are too serious about it…
Hey Bubba- when we pull to that thar stop sign, y’all wrech up thar and git me one’ve them beers..
Here’s another view from the front. I can’t see how that thing would stay up on it’s wheels if that fridge was WELDED to the roof, but it seems to be the real deal….
http://www.2dayblog.com/2009/09/14/smart-car-is-strong/
And next, the shed…
Now that gives true meaning to top heavy! — The refridgerator probably weighs more than the Smart Car!
The only drawback is: you have to get all the beer drunk before you hit the end of the extension cord.
Whaa… I wonder if this dumb- had that accident we all expected from this picture???
Last weekend I saw some guy strapping about 6, 8 foot 2×4′s to his motorcycle at Home Despot
On his rear seat he had a plastic milk crate with concrete blocks in it
He might have been planning to help unload the fridge, by building a ramp
Once unloaded, could build a canopy to protect the smart from the bears
Yowza !
Oh, sigh!
It didn’t come with cup-holders, but now our drinks stay really cold, too.
As the owner of a smart fortwo I can knowledgeably state the following:
1- the roof structure IS capable of holding that fridge (it got a high rating from the Insurance Institute testers), in their roll-over test. It’s thick steel safety cage/cell is a major reason we bought this car (it’s the safest small car ever made). See this online video if you don’t believe me!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJHpUO-S0i8
2- The smart car weighs almost a ton.
3- The steel “Tridion” safety cage uses the same thickness of steel as used in a $200,000 Mercedes S class!
4- Before you denigrate the smart car, make sure you have some actual facts to back up your opinions!
Please go here… http://safeandsmart.com/
All that said… I can’t believe it would stay there if you drove more than 3mph around a curve!
Some of these pix make me cringe and look over my shoulder to make sure nothing like them is anywhere near me. This is one of those.
Why complain about using a plane’s wheeled stairs, if the peepz can get up and down to second floor. And if it’s in the back of the house. Or if you Really Don’t Care what the neighbors think.
However. I have an old air filter box that I am planning to make over into book storage. (Some of these pix just look like good ideas.)
Can’t put them under the bed — unless I cut holes in the water-bed base…. Hmn
I guess the smart car is the former iPad: Useless alone, but add-ons make it really shine!
getting a little top-heavy?
Mrs. Smith was getting tired of all that eating out. The kids were constantly wanting fast food, and the new car note was extremely expensive. One day Mrs. Smith decided that if she had to cart the kids around all day, she might as well take the kitchen along with her. Inside you will the microwave in the passenger seat and the sink in the trunk. The kids are now currently in the best shape of their lives having to run behind the kitchen car.
I’d say: Don’t underestimate the power of stupidity!
If the car was made before 2006 then it is probably a Mercedes model that gets 50 mpg and has a top crash resistant rating. Plus goes 85 mph. Now THAT’S “smart.”
The new ones are made by Chrysler and Mitsubishi and only get 35 mpg. May as well buy a Honda that gets 40 and seats 4.
From the SMART fortwo manual:
No racks or loads may be secured to the roof of the vehicle, as:
•the panorama roof may be damaged, thus injuring persons.
•this can have a substantial adverse effect on the driving dynamics of the vehicle, thus causing accidents.
•the rack and/or the load could detach and through this cause an accident or other people could be injured by the load and/or rack that has fallen off
Oh, really? I would say this guy nailed three out of three. Also, I would love to see an “after picture” of the car with the fridge inside it after the glass panorama roof was damaged “thus injuring persons”.
Liability language: “roof MAY be damaged,” “CAN have” “COULD detatch”
The Mercedes safety cage is strong enough to take the load of the fridge plus a six-pack inside. I wouldn’t be driving it around, though.
I wanna see it going down the road!
I’ll believe it’s real and possible, but:
1) The way it’s tied, the first corner that car takes, the fridge is on the pavement.
2) Any low bridge or hanging wire is gonna make it a “bad day”.
Buy a smart car. Get a free cooler…..Damn we made these things too small.
