If they just left the tape off, it would draw less attention. People would think it was really clean glass. For the cost of a cup of coffee they could hire a homeless person to come by and pretend to polish the non-existent glass.

This would look even stupider if it had “Police Do not cross” tape across it. Hate to be the guy who was accused of Arson even though he was trying to put out the fire.
