10 minutes later on the interstate, it started to unravel, guaranteeing no tailgaters.

hmmm, did this travel down 66 in Virginia perhaps? I believe it was no more than a week ago. I saw something similar one evening on my way home. I found it amusing
a layer of duct tape wrapped around the top layer will hold it down nicely while it’s cruizin the highway
Actually, not a bad idea. If it can be used to secure pallets of goods, this should be no big deal.
I don’t think it’s at all a bad idea either. I just saw one of those luggage wrappers a couple weeks ago at the Rome airport and was thinking “I wonder what else you could wrap!” Removal doesn’t have to be as tedious as putting it on since you can just use scissors or a box cutter.
I’m with you. I thought this was a WIN for ease in removal, and for better staying power.
Actually, with just a little care this can end up being a lot better than an actual tarp. It is just not economical on the long run but it will do the job just fine.
Yup just like wrapping a friend’s car; up and over, end to end until the only way to get in is a knife. Therein lies the issue of being not economical, its nonrenewable nature also makes it not very eco-green-friendly. Wrap it correctly though and you got no worries once ya got the loose end tied in a proper knot to another strand it’ll work just as well and possibly better than speed-rated duct tape.
This really isn’t a kluge at all.
Heavy duty plastic wrap is used to contain and protects all manner of pallet shipped goods.
Heck, automated wrapping machines are an industry in themselves.

They do this all the time with pallets on flatbed trucks, not much different here…
Maybe they are warping up that mattress cause it has bed bugs?
(Looks to me like theirs a mattress in there)
HA, I once got a girl to sleep with me by making her believe she had bed bugs.
I actually think we got bed bugs from the saran wrap ripping off the bed and being exposed to the air for 3 days… I had to steam the mattress for an hour and spray it…I’m not joking…
This isn’t a kludge; this is exactly how this industrial wrap is meant to be used. Wrapping it under the trailer is a bit sketchy but the stuff is meant to hold things together; you often see it wrapped around stacks of bags on pallets to hold the stack together. It won’t unravel; its’ designed to cling hard with an electrostatic charge, and most people knot it when they’re done wrapping. It actually works much better than a tarp for protecting stuff as you drive down the road, because it won’t flap in the wind and is a lot better at keeping the rain out.
I’m not sure I’d even call this a kludge. You do this with pallets in warehouses all the time. He’s probably using the same industrial wrap. I don’t think typical grocery store plastic wrap would hold on to the corners of the trailer like that without ripping. Although admittedly I’ve never personally seen the industrial stuff in colors.
The guy (the one not too interested in working…) just entered the following words on the mobile browser using Google: “My dad went nuts, what to do?”
It’s not that crazy, a number of commercial packages, get wrapped in that stuff, though most of those are on pallets in a truck. I think that’s the dispenser laying on top with a blue handle.
OK, now we duct tape the mirror, and microwave to the back of the truck.
This looks like the back of a Goodwill store. They could re-roll that stuff and sell it.
This guy must work in the packaging industry. We use that stuff all the time to keep pallets full of unstable stacks of boxes and bags together.
Looks more like the stretch wrap that’s used for shipping skids then for keeping food fresh.
And if that’s the case, it’s way better then a blue tarp.
The industrial wrap comes in every color of the rainbow. I like the green though it fits the holiday.
Actually, that looks like a VCI impregnated stretch film, so it should do the job, and it will prevent rust.
I so wish I had thought of this. With all the times I’ve had to do this to pallets of shipping supplies this should have occurred to me a long time ago.
Don’t do it! It looked like a good idea but was tore to shit before I was on the road an hour. I had to drag plastic ribbons behind my truck the whole trip hahah it looked like crap
I just love packing everything from CDs to cartridges in the stretch foil.
Use to do this all the time. I was delivery driver for a company that handled wood doors. Tarps are no way to go when hauling $4000 dollars worth of maple doors. Shrink-wrap the hell out of it, toss a tarp over it for another layer of protection, ratchet it down & go!
Not a kludge. Normal use of (wasteful, non-renewable, petroleum-product-based) industrial plastic wrap.
Wrap it… Wrap it good! How about adding a layer of duck tape as a precaution? Gotta over engineer!
You’re right! Need to seal up all the seams.
No kludge here. There is heavy-duty, wide plastic wrap used for this purpose. Fail on the poster for not recognizing that . Didn’t you know you can secure your trailer and keep your consumables fresh at the same time?
Vaccuum sealed for freshness!
I was about to say something about ‘freshness’ & your name, but Jiminy Cricket is waving his finger at me.
Stretch wrap. Now there is a novel idea!
Just know its a camping trip, half way there “Dad, I have to crap, can we stop by those trees.”
Dad replies “Sure son the shovel & butt paper are in the trai…. OH DAMN IT!”
That’s one way to preserve the body.
Not a kludge in my opinion…. winterizing powerboats on trailers around here is commonly done the same way.
Now, if the son goes to get the red plastic wrap, the family will be all ready for Christmas! Arn’t the holidays magical?
Note the kid, probably with a knife somewhere, eyeing that brand new plasma screen under that plastic wrap.
not a kludge – no duct tape !
If its cold out it would keep your camper fresh.
Film at 11.
Guaranteed to be waterproof. Reminds me what it looked like when I moved into my dorm.
This works juuuust fine. Ask Dexter.
I see he shops at Costco, too.
As other noted, this isn’t a kludge!
By the way, I have tried ordinary food wrap, and it’s not bad at all. Compresses, stabilizes, and protects all at once! I study overseas, and often leave home with a ton of stuff that only needs to travel one way. My dad has amazing plastic wrapping skills. Comforter too puffy? Wrap it. Boots flopping around? Wrap ‘em. Bike parts jutting out of box? Plastic wrap to the rescue. Bottle of soy sauce in glass bottle? Yup, wrap it.
I posted this pic! And I will tell you why this IS A KLUDGE. I drove 3000 miles, and every time I tried to put saran wrap on, it just flew off within ten minutes. I agree saran wrap is great for pallets, but pallets are different then truck beds driving 80MPH in the wind for three days.
It’s guaranteed to keep your valuables fresh for those long roadtrips! No more spoiled luggage!
You laugh, but trailer laminating is going to be big. These guys are now ready to store this stuff under water.
I can just hear this guy:
Hey, Bud! Now it’s tied down AND waterproof. Cool, huh?
