Maggie sent me on a nostalgic journey to YouTube where I found this for all your Yip Yip viewing pleasure. If you have a fond memory of the Yip Yip (or a not so fond memory) share them in the comments!- Ms. Fix-It

I see they repaired and painted over the blood-smeared noggin-shaped dents in that ceiling support.

Something like that. It would look better if the answer form allowed more line space and html. :)

Ceiling Cat needs his pathways clear at all times.

    Tetris door?

  5. Don says:

Little Timmy Tucker aspired to be an architect one day. Here we see an example of his master art. Notice how the door leaves just enough room for each bump on the impending load-bearing structure…pure genius.

  6. Albert says:

The planner of the house must’ve been quite a craftsman :P

  7. penguin_man says:

I could of sworn I saw this before on here.

  8. wdarling says:

Maybe the bathroom is the one posted earlier with the staggered-height shower curtain? Nah, too good to be true!

  9. Ohnonotagain says:

Note: painting over a wet spot on your cieling will not make it go away no matter how many times you do it.

  10. Lola Granola says:

Sooo, what does the rest of the house look like? ….and will we be seeing this on “Lovely Listing”?

  11. Eric says:

You just KNOW when this door opens it will go *SCRRRRRRAPE* and make little stucco bits rain down upon the concrete tiles below. And yet nobody will believe Rat Little when he says the sky is falling.

  12. Nana says:

OK–did you buy the house? That’s what I want to know.

  13. Matt says:

We’ll here she is. Rents about $450, due by the first. Watch your head on the way in. Don’t plan on having any loud parties, tall friends or do it yourself projects. This place is just fine the way it is. Oh yea, don’t touch my kernels. – Would you rent from this guy?

  14. Dragonpearl says:

That ceiling support is actually the vent duct for the furnace. It ran all across the ceiling of this basement apartment supplying heat for the various vents on the first floor of the house. The ceiling of the basement couldn’t have been more than 7 feet high.

My sister lived in an apartment that had a notch cut out of the bathroom door to accommodate the lip of the counter top around the sink. This totally reminds me of that!

  16. AJ says:

Awesome video! Those aliens were my favorite characters on Sesame Street. Now I see why. I’m pushing 30 and they STILL crack me up :)

  17. NoOneHome says:

Wish I could laugh, but I live in such an apartment. They replaced the water pipes in the building, and rather than dig the old pipes out (and thus not collect rent from the displaced tenants), they just capped them off and ran new pipe along the outside of the walls. They then put in this “neat” cover job.

While my apartment doesn’t have any destroyed doors, they did run the pipe through the *kitchen cabinet*, basically eliminating the top shelf. And, of course, the plastic pipes constantly make cracking and creaking sounds from the temperature changes (proper insulation, what’s that?). Not to mention I don’t think all the mounts are supporting the pipes sufficiently, as I’ve noticed the cabinet frame is starting to sag (pipes are probably using it as support now).

But hey, I was “allowed” to continue living in the apartment with all my stuff shoved into half it’s square footage and the bathroom / kitchen often unavailable for the better part of a month while workers tromped through continuously. Sadly I was not allowed to only pay half a month’s rent for only having the use of half of my apartment, or collect rent from any of the workers who practically took up residence there.

My very favorite Yip Yip skit has the Family song:

    “Yip yip, you
    yip yip, me
    yip yip, baby
    yip yip, family”

  20. Kay says:

Hey! My basement door looks just like that, except not so clean and pretty. Added A/C and the installers had to run pipe to furnace in basement.
And I am using blankets over the two doors from outside into basement: can’t get either door to close, old house keeps rearranging self.
