That house has some serious wood.
That looks Photoshoped. If the tree was really there the siding around the trunk would be buckled. And if the house was really that tall, there would be some windows lower down too.
Not necessarily. First the siding could have big enough gaps around it to have not buckled yet (will need trimming in the future assuming the tree lasts long enough. Also it looks like the house is built into a relatively steep hill, or mountain, and a rocky one at that. The siding may be mostly covering supports, not usable space, so you wouldn’t have the windows. Kinda stupid overall (the house not the commenter) but not something thats impossible either.
If you think this can’t exist for real, you deserve a good whack with a 2×4. Buckled siding? Clearly this house is pretty new, and it’s obviously built around the tree after it had already grown to roughly this size. And why would they have windows lower down that side if they don’t need them? There’s a (windowless) door up the stairs; I expect such a door to open into the garage or a storage space, so this would be the utility corner of the house, with a small basement below the garage level.
There’s probably nothing much behind that siding, actually. Because of the steep hill the house is probably built on piers.
@Orv: could well be. In which case they’ve probably done it up like this because it looks neater, or to prevent people having passionate and loud sex under the overhang or something.
so much for maintenance free vinyl siding. maybe Swiss Family Robinson was having withdrawal pains moving into a conventional house.

It only counts as awesome if the tree survives for a few years. Often one of the contractors will manage to kill the tree’s roots. Or the house’s drainage will alternately flood and totally dry out the roots.

I would hate to see this in a couple of years after the tree has grown a bit (remember, kids, trunks get wider as the tree grows taller — leave it some room to grow into or else no more wall… or house!)
There’ll be nothing you’d hate to see if the owner runs a jigsaw around the gap every year or two.
Actually, I believe this is a sandpaper tree, so it makes the hole bigger all by itself.
I am not sure who to give credit for this one… the builder or the politican/building inspector that decided it was better for everyone involved if we just saved the tree.

I have to wonder which was cheaper, getting the tree cut down, or putting siding up all the way around where a tree just smashed through your foundation?
If you don’t regularly prune your house, it will eventually start to overtake the surrounding vegetation.
