Going to be a great deal of these as people move from the old CRT screens.
my favorite part is the door behind it that opens inward. i hope the display is duct taped to the surface. so why is the viewer sitting so close?
that door is no where near that tv and doesn’t swing towards it unless its spring loaded to shoot off its hinges.
No, but anyone walking *through* that doorway has to be pretty careful not to knock against the TV. Only anorexically thin people must live there.
This is why interior designers hate TVs almost as much as they hate ceiling fans.
We did nearly this exact thing with our pc monitor- except, well, we just knocked out the side support. Classy.
Probably easier than finding new housing for all those movies. Just don’t walk past too close to the right side, there.
Would be a perfect kludge if wood varnish would have been applied…
Yeah, other that than, it’s a really cleanly executed job.
Should have put the cut off bit of wood on a hinge as well. Then it could be folded back into place.
totally worth it! who wouldn’t need to see Chris Noth in Hi Def!
he’s looking old…
This would make me jump up nervously anytime anyone came in that door. “Whoa nelly, don’t just go barging in and out. I’m watching Seagal and that TV is overloaded and unbalanced already because of it!”
Seriously? This is way too normal for this site.
Caution: Images on right of screen may appear float-i-er than usual.
Don’t laugh, my entertainment center almost looked like that!
Just a new husband.
Nothing wrong with giving the TV a little room to grow.
Heck yeah – how else do you think you get Drive In Movie screens? Gotta give them the right environment to grow big and strong.
All that work to watch THAT?
I think it’s rather fitting that it’s on the Sleuth channel. That one guy on TV looks like he’s trying to figure out why they didn’t just get a smaller TV. Iiit’s a Mystery!
A smaller TV? No way!
…in Whoville they say, the Grinch’s TV grew 3 sizes that day!
Gotta love Mr. Big!
We did exactly the same thing except I mixed some of my craft paints to match the varnish and touched up the raw edges. It worked perfect.
Sawzall, baby!
Ok, you got me.. Where’s the Kludge?
Im seeing a perfectly normal wide-screen tv overrunning an old tv stand.
Like you find in about every third household nowadays.
We have a very similar entertainment center. When we upgraded to a 46″ widescreen, I converted the “TV” spot to shelving for DVD’s, and hung the TV over the fireplace. The shelves behind the door hold all the components (blu-ray, AV receiver, et. al). I’ve had many people tell me they can’t tell the center was converted– they thought it came that way from the factory.
Side note: The Good Wife is a great show. If you aren’t watching it, you should be.
Nice hack job….I mean Kludge. Uh just one question. Whay didn’t he/they just hang the tv on the wall?
whats funny…I did this with mine too. Lol. win.
This proves they learned from the first attempt when they tried to cut the new TV to fit the old entertainment center.
Sadly enough, we’ve done the exact same thing.
yeah law and order!
I just bought the same TV and I have the same DVR/Cable Box. It’s like someone threatening me to see this horror.
No ordinary entertainment center can contain the deadpan awesomeness that is Chris Noth!
[...] you ready to block? See honey? We don’t need a new entertainment center. Martha Stewart spoiler [...]
What……………..???
Oooh! I get it. No problem then.
HE SAID THE DOOR IS ALREADY OPEN! SEE THE LATCH STICKING OUT? SEE THE OUTLET PLUG PARTIALLY COVERED, FURTHER DOWN? AM I SPEAKING LOUD ENOUGH?
