» 72 Kludgers Kludging

  1. PosterGrampa says:

The whole dash looks like a kludge and a death trap in any sort of collision.

  2. Benno says:

This person sure got the “hookup” for the right price.

  3. Pat says:

This might actually look right … if the rest of the dash wasn’t missing.

  4. heidrance says:

I”m not familiar with that Dashboard Confessional song. Is it off their latest album?

  5. K says:

I can’t tell what is supposed to be there and what isn’t.

  6. JB says:

No wonder why Fritz Henderson resigned from GM!

  7. Steen says:

And to top it off, it seems that the driver took the picture while driving at 30 mph. what car is that

  8. Dan10 says:

Should read “I’m not an HVAC installer” (thats the climate control)

  9. Rudager says:

    Shot the photo going 30MPH.

  10. Evan says:

    Is that an 8-track player?!

  11. husabob says:

good use of metal strapping to keep the ducting and controls in place. i’m surprised to see a key in the ignition. i guess they misplaced their screwdriver. the only audio in this vehicle would be the wind whistling though the open dash.

  12. Sue says:

We are Borg. You will be assimilated. We’re starting with your car.

    • Muff Master says:

Kind of gives new meaning to the phrase “resistance is futile”….meaning this thing is so kludged up with metal strapping and exposed wires, it probably conducts electricity better than an electric chair!

    • Paddy says:

But not starting your car. Because we can’t.

  13. Chris says:

That isn’t audio gear, its the climate control module.

  14. Albert says:

Somebody’s been watching too much Back to the Future. probably under influence.

  15. Gas says:

Where exactly is installed the triple flux capacitor?

  16. no_one says:

    But good routing cables.

  17. yosh says:

This looks like the inside of my mom’s Plymouth Acclaim she used to own. She didn’t have a radio for it. And, the climate control box was about where this one is (that’s not a radio). Also, that looks like the horn button on the steering wheel, just like hers had.

  18. Stefan says:

Either they were driving at 30 mph when they took the picture, or the speedometer’s broken.

  19. Ph says:

Also the car seems to go at 30Mph at the time of the photo. Next project, fix speedometer?

  20. Teebo says:

It looks like the minivan of the apocalypse…now with tape deck.

  21. I think it is just a normal car dashboard with the cover removed…

  22. bug says:

It has to get over 80mph before the flux capacitor kicks in.

  23. JB says:

The original dashboard must have been pretty ugly or he dropped his last smoke in the vent and tried to get it back!

  24. BoringTroll says:

If you mount the in-dash DVD player so well that it can’t be stolen without destroying the dashboard, then the thieves will destroy the dashboard.

  25. blah says:

Does look like a repair-in-progress, but I’m wondering what those large chrome hooks are for.

  26. Jim Pemberton says:

Dashes? Dashes? We don’t need no stinking dashes.

  27. Lady J says:

What a nice steering wheel cover!

  28. I like the two new shiny hooks, I wonder where the gun is?

  29. nathan says:

this is my 94 dodge caravan. the dash was removed for the heater core replacement job. i tried to fab up a fancy one, and obviously never got around to it. the shiny metal holders are a towel bar shelf thing i found. i had more pictures but i dont know if they would all get on the same link. the speedometer is mounted with a folded up license plate, and you can tell in the other pictures how i cut apart the metal structure of the.. well i should probably just stop there. but i should mention i sold the car in this condition and it is still out there driving around to this day.

  30. js says:

is that an iPod holder under the heater controls?

  31. Lumpy says:

Mad Max’s new whip complete with pistol rack.

  32. unknown says:

Ok Billy, in order to get her runnin you gotta first place your shotgun in this here holster. Then you gotta make sure the heater switch is as high as it goes. Now this part gets tricky. You have to switch the a/c back and forth between high and low while simultaneously hitting the gas and turning the ignition. Also make sure this alarm switch/garage opener is blinking. Don’t ask my why, it just works. The a/c doesn’t actually work so you get hot you know what to do. If all else fails, dump her in the river.

  33. Themoron says:

looks like that radio was originally suposed to be a maillbox i see the newspaper holder

  34. dono1 says:

Voting booths are getting more and more difficult to use…

  35. OnlyTheLonely says:

Decepticon mating rituals are not for the faint of heart.

  36. dono1 says:

This must be the alterative to giving a thief your radio on a silver platter.

  37. Nosebreaker says:

    That looks familiar… I think it’s my uncle’s car…

  38. CaffeineAddict says:

Reminds me of the time I hit a bump at 80mph and the dashboard fell off my first car. Fecking hard to get to the side of the motorway with half a ton of plastic resting on your ankles…

    • demon says:

half a ton of plastic eh? what in the hell are you driving? my car doesnt even weigh a ton and a half in total. 1000 pounds of plastic would be bigger than your car.

  39. Mr Obnox says:

Holiday reminder: kludgers who give the gift of a screwdriver set to their children deserve what they get in return

  40. Dave says:

Marty should really start locking his car, some one stole the time circuits,. AGAIN.

  41. Walt says:

They are doing a custom dash… not a kludge, just an unfinished job

  42. Shin says:

Is that a shotgun rack at the bottom?

  43. Frozenc says:

    Where 2 put flux capacitor?

  44. kyle says:

actually, the first thing i noticed was that it isn’t a stereo to begin with. it’s heat/ac controls…

  45. dudezippo says:

Now all we need is a flux capacitor.

  46. True says:

So, is it me, or does he have a chromed out gun rack right in front? Protect and swerve!

  47. J D Walden says:

Everyone know’s that is not an audio conversion, it is an AC Control installation. Pure genius.

damn now where did i leave the flux capacitor. whats the use of going back in time to find the dash if we cant find the flux capacitor

  52. Kadee says:

“MARTY!!! YOU’VE GOT TO COME BACK WITH ME!!! GET IN!!” “Uh, Doc, did you uh….do this yourself?” “OF COURSE! STAYED UP ALL NIGHT WITH A HUNDRED CANS OF MONSTER!” “Are you…doing okay, Doc?” “FANTASTIC!! LET’S GO!!!”
