Now I Can Surf The Web AND Apply Mascara!

So this morning, my buddies over at That Will Buff Out sent me a link to the scariest product I’ve ever seen for a car. Now it wasn’t so bad when it was a kludge:

This questionable product has spawned an incredible number of hilarious customer submitted images and comments the likes of which have not been seen since the Three Wolf Moon t shirt. Check out the full story here.

    First post!
    But really?

  2. dono1 says:

I would steer clear of this product.

  3. monkeyslayer56 says:

    safty? whats that?

  4. Craig says:

AHAHAHA! Followed the link to the Amazon page and looked at the user-supplied photos!

  5. Max says:

I like this solution even better http://modernoffice.stores.yahoo.net/aurowst.html now i can print, talk on my cell and read geekologie while driving

  6. Horst Peschrat says:

I definitely need this. I really appreciate the possibility to cook some yummy meal on my portable camping stove while driving.

    • Chris Russo says:

You’re way behind Horst. My brother cooked his food on his road trip back in the late 60′s. then there was a cookbook later called Manifold Destiny–how to time the stuff you had cooking under your hood while you drove. Personally we’ve cooked meals in the car by hooking up the slow cooker to the ???..thingy where you’d plug in headphones I think. Arrive at the potluck 250 miles away with a perfectly cooked Jambalaya!

      • emily michelle says:

There’s a cookbook for cooking on your manifold? All this time I thought my neighbor was just some kind of cooking genius. I’m a little disappointed now.

      • demon says:

you plugged your headphones into the power outlet? could explain why youve been going through so many pairs of headphones…

  7. fragonman says:

that’ll be $800 .wheel around for your fail please.

  8. Monty says:

Great for people stuck in traffic!

  9. deitarion says:

It’s a good thing most non-book/DVD Amazon.com offerings aren’t available in Canada. Here in Ontario, it’s illegal to have TVs/laptops/etc. positioned so that the driver can see them.

  10. weird says:

Police have laptops in their cars. Don’t see how either of those are unsafe. Of course, if you use a laptop while driving, you’re an idiot. There are, however, many people who would need to use their laptop WHILE STOPPED in their car.

    • Schilcote says:

Except police installations are more like the kludge, they are to be accessed from either seat while looking to the side. This setup is, while definitely INTENDED to be used while stationary, far more usable while driving. There’s a difference between what you’re SUPPOSED to do with it, and what people ACTUALLY do with it.

      EMPHASIS

      • Robert says:

Are you kidding? I see officers driving down the road, in traffic, or at night, running license plates with their laptops all the time. They could be bumper to bumper or going 85mi/hr and still using those things.

  11. Tio says:

now we can use the keyboard arrows to drive!

  12. waldo says:

Plumbers and velcro, scary combination. They forgot to intall the p-trap.

  13. Front-seat laptop stands are routinely installed in police cars. Seriously.

  14. Dave says:

Jack never should have left those magical laptop growing beans in his cup holder overnight.

  15. Rich says:

I can actually see a use for this. There have been times when my daily commute included long waits in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and I had time to kill. I could have used something like this.

  16. Pat says:

Hold on. Let me get my “Shut Windows Down and Drive” bumper sticker in place.

  17. wtf says:

uhhh, have you ever seen a police cruiser? they have laptop stands very similar to this one….this post isn’t that funny…

  18. Truthiness says:

Now police will have to create an entirely new category – “DWB” – driving while blogging.

  19. Bill says:

Yep the cops use these all the time around here, they are encouraged (read “ordered”) to punch in any license plate number they see just to check for warrants, even if a car is just sitting there doing nothing. They call it “running tags”.Sorta like if you fire a lot of shells you might hit a deer.

  20. dave-ilsw says:

Yes, seriously. I can see how it would be very handy while working out of your parked car. Notice how there’s no key in the ignition in Amazon’s photo?

  21. DLZ says:

Chat log: “omg i just got pulled over. let me point the webcam out the window so you can see the cop lol lol”

  22. Demetrius says:

Sometimes my wife sits in the car and does work on her laptop before/after driving between classes (while she’s still parked within WiFi range.) Assuming one doesn’t use them *while* driving, these are both good solutions.

  23. wdarling says:

I can see how these products could be used in a legitimate, safe way (as Demetrius points out) — used by people like real estate agents or students who may wind up using the car as an office while they are not moving. However, there are plenty of fools who will use them in the, um, non-recommended fashion.

  24. saintknowitall says:

    Concerning the original Kludge.

Just lift the laptop and enjoy the convenience of a mobile toilet.

  25. Heydon says:

So it looks like Joe the plumber retired from political stuff to pursue his dream as an inventor.

  26. Teebo says:

I like how one of the submitted images is the Hindenburg crashing.

  27. Rcgd says:

    Grand Theft Auto anyone?

  28. HUSABOB says:

ought to be able to move alot of data through a pipe that large. TomTom on steroids?

  29. one small step says:

    Hmmmm…. Reticulated Pentuim Pipesnake!

  30. one small step says:

    Hmmmmm…. Reticulated Pentium Pipesnake.

(I apologise if this posts multiple times, its not showing up on my screen)

  31. RusFixer says:

    OH SHI~

If anyone drives into my car while using this crap, someone better call the police or I’ll kill the bastard with bare hands.

  32. Brad-Man says:

I bet the people who reviewed it as a 5/5 are dead by now…

  33. Unpro says:

Aha!!! The pipes are giving me ideas!

  34. The Cat says:

This is just silly. Your laptop would fall when you tried to turn!

  35. TheAntiCat says:

Yes, the police use a setup like this in the cars. They are also purpose built devices that lock in place. Most departments don’t need the officer to manually input plate numbers, they have the dash-cam scanning upwards to 100 plates at any moment.

  36. dono1 says:

How to ensure that both your car and your computer will crash at the same time.

  37. Shimmer says:

^ Very nice. Incidentally I saw this first at ThatWillBuffOut as they said.
You all know you’d rather have the PS2 controller from MIIB though.

  38. ecco6t9 says:

Now all I need is an Easy Bake Oven in the front and I’m set.

  39. Maggie Dwyer says:

The point of putting up the link to that Amazon “car laptop shelf” product is to read the remarks and look at the photos posted by “users.” It is side-splittingly funny. This listing has been a running gag at Amazon for almost a year, and though occasionally someone comes along and doesn’t get the tongue-in-cheek tone, they’re rare. I think people who are already fans of Epic Kludge will more than get the absurdity of the contributions. Take a little time and read the remarks all the way through, and find the links to photos. It’s great.

  40. Brian says:

I love this, but what I love more is that they took the time to paint the PVC pipe to match the interior.

  41. classicgameguru says:

Reminds me of those T.A.C(road safety campaign) ads on Australian tv.
“If you fap and drive you’re a bloody wanker”

Once Windows crashes, you’ll never wind it back up again.

    Don’t Facebook, face road!

  42. The customer reviews on Amazon are a treasure trove of unbelievable hilarity. My personal favorite is the guy who said he likes to have a place to set his laptop so he can email the highway patrol if he sees someone using a cellphone while driving.

  43. Xzibit says:

SUP DAWG, WE HEARD YOU LIKE COMPUTERS, SO WE PUT LAPTOP IN YO CAR SO YOU CAN WRITE E-MAILS WHILE YOU DRIVE.

  44. Bianca says:

One second Stacey, I have to make a tuuuuuurrrrnnn!!!!

  45. BobbyMcheese says:

Honestly, I would have prefer the one from amazon.

  46. aliChronic says:

uhh did anyone notice that there is a whole DESK for your car, including a printer stand? work from home for people who live in their cars?
