Damn, I bet when you’re opening/closing the curtain none of the rings may touch the bar or suddenly a buzzer goes off and a man will come into the room and say “Aah too bad let’s see what you would’ve won if you done it right” and then all this people would come in there and do wavy hand movements in front of prices you didn’t win.

It’s really a monocular shower, to make people of the same size, look way taller/smaller than life to the naked eye.

I think it’s quite clever, actually. Would be interested to see what the bottom edge looks like, though…did they actually cut into the curtain at the top and make new holes for the lower section? Or is the whole thing hanging crooked at the bottom? I hope it’s the former…
It looks like there are two curtain pieces, taped together in the middle. The left piece was probably trimmed at the bottom.

The alternative would be to cut the top of the curtain at an angle and attach it to hooks in the ceiling. At least *this* way you can open either side.
But then you’d have to anchor it at the high end, or we’d all have a room with a view!
I wouldn’t want them taped together in the middle though, I would’ve prefered having the two overlap some there, and then use the middle for opening it.

I agree with those that think it was a good idea. Not a better solution given by anyone. I doubt there would be one. I also agree with those that think the contractor’s skills are somewhat lacking.

I like it! The only problem could be opening the curtain. With the top corner attached to the ceiling, the curtain can only open toward the middle, which is still adequate.

Some kludges are great ideas. This is one of them.
The pvc shower rod is not unlike what’s at my mother-in-law’s bed. She and my father-in-law have a bedroom there just off their kitchen area, but sometimes she likes to sleep elsewhere when his snoring gets too loud. So she has her own bed area at the far end of the kitchen complete with a pvc pipe curtain rod that she pulls shut for privacy. It’s even dog-legged to fit to an uneven place where the basement ceiling covers some ductwork.

Also, rather than blaming the contractor, I think this is an added on bathroom, if you look at the corner above the shower head it looks recently sealed up. I think someone wanted another bathroom in their house and probably had limited space to work with and/or also needed space that already had plumbing inside the wall.
Think of it this way, if you had sliding doors, they only open halfways which is what you got here.

Fail. A true kludger would have found a way to alter the showerhead in such a way that it doesn’t require a curtain at all.

In it’s own way, it’s genius.
The apartment where I live now has a shower exactly like this! If only my landlord would do the same thing! He chose to make the shower rod curve half way down the tub, and we don’t even get the benefit of taking a bath because he won’t install a faucet, just the shower head. We ended up just cutting off the bottom of a regular plastic shower curtain liner because a full sized shower curtain won’t fit. It’s too long. Excellent solution though. I love it!

Oh, come on. They should’ve just made the curtain rod follow the countour of the stairs, cut the curtain on the bias, and attach suction cups to the “uphill” end of the curtain.
But with that kind of design forethought they probably would’ve also thought to cover the underside of the staircase with tile or something else waterproof.
