What? diverting AC drip into nearby planters? That’s the oldest thing since squatting to poo. I would comment on the hose going in front of the door but it opens inwards so it is not an issue.
That Actually looks like a great idea…
Yep, looks fine to me.
beats an ice shower while walking out the door any day
On my one and only trip to NYC, I was walking up 8th Ave. and suddenly felt sprinkles on what I knew to be a sunny, cloudless day. I looked up and was greeted by the steady patter of drips from 12 floors of window A/C units above me.
So unobtrusive and yet it’s working so well- just look at that lush vegetation.
AC drip is mostly distilled sweat, so those plant won’t even need fertilization.
That’s sustainable progress!!! This guy is not wasting anything.
Is that some kind of brush between the AC unit and the hose? WTF is up with that? Filters/collects the water?
I’ve done exactly that sort of thing at pretty much every house I’ve ever lived at. Admittedly, it wasn’t on a window unit AC, but on the whole house AC units, that water has to go somewhere. Might as well run the hose out to a garden area.
Not a kludge, except in the (lack of) esthetics.
This is a good idea, but like others have said… nothing new here except a poor implementation. Should have used a longer hose to route it around the door frame.
#7, its a collection container.
It looks like some sort of disposable tray. I guess the water drips in multiple places too widespread for the funnel.
Where the heck is Paddy ? – this is his area of expertise.
New way to grow marihuana outdoors!
@Badgirl
I’ve been wondering that, too. Maybe he lost his computer privileges? Maybe there’s a big HVAC convention somewhere? Maybe he’s fabricating duct work for his Halloween costume?
Sure, this is a great way to conserve water and all…But are those lemons under the AC?
I like it!
it’s all about the 3 R’s, really liked it
What?
No, it’s fairly pure water. Picks up some dirt from the condenser coils and such, but if they’re clean it’s potable.
Our a/c is on the roof, and the runoff comes out a pipe near the ground. Instead of having it soak the sidewalk, and grow slime and moss, I cut a 2 liter bottle down, screwed a garden hose on, and ran the hose to the rose garden.
Dry pavement on the side of the house, and we get 10 GALLONS of free water on a hot day. With the drought in LA, this is keeping my roses alive! Well, this, and the bucket in the shower to catch another 10 gallons of wastewater for the lawn!
Pretty condensi-, i mean amazing!
@Jon
wanted to say that too – once something is “distilled” that means that all the hard matter particles are gone. what stays is the purest H2O you can get.
No point in p*ssing away the profits!
“A” for enviro effort.( hippie) and “f” for execution. Sloppy work YO.
our dining hall contractors in the Sandbox ran all the AC condensation to an herb and mint garden. Very efficient use of water.
@dono – has to be loss of privileges. Uber-nerd conventions certainly have wi-fi and even making his costume, he’d at least check in with us.
@Badgirl
@dono1
HA HA HA! You’re partly right…my brother was downloading so many movies, there was no bandwidth left for me! So I took a sabbatical!
@Paddy
Ha Ha! Ha… Ahem. Don’t let it happen again.
So THAT’S why my shoes get splashed every time I swing that door open!
At least that helps to save water.
