It’s not hair, it’s fiber-optic cable. Hence a cable tie.
Good luck getting it off.
I’ve done this. I was working at Home Depot when my hairclip broke. So, I used a zip-tie. Of course, I got scissors and cut it down to size so it wasn’t so noticeable. When I got home my hubby cut it off with scissors.
Looks like she’s playing some sport, probably soccer. No referee should let her play with that in her hair.
Alleykitten, you had, IMO, a semi-valid excuse. This little girl has none. NONE! You mean to tell me she had no little friends with extra Ouchless bands? And she didn’t have one or two around her wrist like all the other 11 year olds? Dag. If you’re that tacky with your hair, cut it off.
I’d probably zip down to my bedroom to get a new one, but I can see she’s kinda tied up somewhere else.
Zip ties are second only to duct tape in usefullness – I just used one last night to make an impromptu key ring. But the tackiness in this photo is the parents’ fault, not the childs . . .
Dad’s weekend for visitation.
nice idea… I bet my bro did this at least once too (he works as a Mechatroniker … *checks on babelfish* *swears*
I’m just waiting for someone, probably the photographer, to grab hold of the end and pull…
Sport would be lethal with that in one’s hair.
If you don’t understand this you don’t have kids LOL. This one’s actually clever.
I could so do that to my kid. We were always forgetting her hair tie for soccer, and in answer to b.: there wasn’t always a spare to be found. I think I used a sock one time.
I agree with P_Buttercup. I have three daughters and you’d be surprised at the things you can use for a ponytail holder. I’d never thought of a zip tie, but I wish I would have.
Well THAT looks comfy.
Another hairy fix.
The worry about sport seems a bit silly!
Really, a field sport game for girls and there is not a single spare hair tie around?
The sad thing is that I’ve done this many times! When we were building our house I would do it often. lol They work great!
It would work better if she had wiry hair.
Shay, my thoughts exactly (Must be dads weekend)..lol
My girlfriend complains that I don’t attach my daughter hair in the morning before school. Never again. I’ll get a 1000 ziptie bag at the hardware store and will be set for 3 years!
“Really, a field sport game for girls and there is not a single spare hair tie around?”
I’m with you Daniel on this one. I have at least a half dozen within arms reach at any given time between car, purse, gym bag, wrist…..
Shouldn’t be allowed to play.
How do you know its a game for girls? It might be a football game or something.
Why yes, Daddy is an IT techie, why do you ask?
c’mon, give her a break. it’s hairly noticeable.
At least it isn’t fiberglass-reinforced tape, so what’s the problem? And the daughter or son (some boys DO like long hair) will grow up not to be so “Oh I can’t, because I don’t have a…” about life! Flexibility in thought patterns is a good thing in life–as is a sense of humor!
Eh, I’ve done this. I’ve volunteerd for a few festivals and well… when zipties are a badge of honour, you use them for everything. I had two holding my hair back. 7 ties will make a a belt, 2 hold a multitool, 1 holds the rest of your supply. etc. etc.
It’s simple: mom was all tied up in laughing at ‘lolcats’ & dad took his little girl to the soccer game in his service truck, because the family minivan had been stolen a couple nights earlier & launched into a church roof.
That would slide right out of my hair if I did that.
Her mother or father is a total noob. In my toolkit is not only a handful of zip ties (in various sizes), I also keep a few hair elastics (the wound, “ouchles” ones). I once fixed a broken throttle cable on a VW Bug using bobbie pins and a hair elastic (for the spring). Plus, I’m with Lisa D; that would easily slide off my hair too.
I had to laugh when I saw this. We had an art teacher in middle school that used to walk around and do this to girls all the time when she thought their hair was in the way. Used them as belts on young men who decided it was appropriate to show their underwear in class too.
* Comes in assorted colors. One size fits all*
Woo Hoo!! I made it on There I Fixed It! The story is that Daddy took her to the game before Mommy got there. It was the only thing that he could find in his car. The teams are mostly boys so no one else could offer anything. When she was goalie it worked fine but when she started running it slipped out. I was very proud of him for thinking of it!!
@waffleking101
Why? Because it’s not stylish enough?
I’m with the ones who think it’s clever. Just because I don’t have a purse full of hair elastics doesn’t make me a bad mother. Does it? Oh no–maybe it does! If the interweb says I am, it must be so.
Genius! Holds better than a hair band! Clip off the excess and you’re good to go. Ingenuity – making the most out of what you have. Nice job.
Good grief, all you haters, zip ties are very flexible. They have to be to work. The likelihood of someone being hurt by that, especially if it was pointed straight down, is INCREDIBLY low. being poked in the eye by a finger, an elbow, or a cleat is much, much more probable.
Thank you rampart! Can’t believe how rude some people are being. As to the safety issue, she was goalie and they’re 7 year olds, she didn’t see much player to player action. When I got there with her older sister we undid her hair so that we could replace the slipping cable tie.
I’ve totally done that. Awesome.
@Stefunkc
Hooray for dads in charge!. My daughter is known as “the girl in the ponytail” since that’s all I can manage while her friends all have all kinds of braids and buns and updos. She can still kick all the asses any day.
is’nt that Macgyver’s daughter
I’m pretty sure a zip tie of that size is more expensive than a cheap scrunchie.
@Stefunkc I work in a wire factory and we use the zip ties to bundle wires together. when it gets hot, you will see at least 3 girls with zip ties in their hair. Perfect solution!!
We do this on the shop floor all the time. They are also great for fixing torn jeans and broken zippers.
Can also be used when Timmy buys condoms a couple sizes too BIG.
I’ve been known to do this. It works fairly well, but is low friction enough that it tends to slip off given enough time.
when mr. mom meets mr. fix-it
I’d fall in love with a girl who did this on the spot.
Please, Oh PLEASE, take a look at this book for those “Hair Challenged!”. http://www.DADHAIR.com I teaches Dads(anyone really) how to manage their daughter’ hair. A zip tie!? Wow,… might as well use duct tape. LOL Take care, everyone!
With this, it’s not about getting the zip tie on the hair….
It’s about getting it off again.
Looks like a Dad hair day!
“Does Your Daughter Have DADHAIR? A step-by-step guide for Dads” DADHAIR noun. A style in which hair is arranged so that it is obvious that an unskilled stylist (namely the male paternal figure) is responsible. syn. Disaster, Tragedy Get ‘DAD’ the book at http://www.DADHAIR.com and give Moms peace of mind!
I am always out of hair ties, too. I work close to a spectrometer with a strong magnet, so I’ve used zip ties quite often, since we have quite a few of them in the lab.
Wow! She just took white trash to a whole new level.
