    Is that the battery at the bottom left?

  4. JB says:

  10. fragonman says:

    …i have no words

  11. Shinta says:

    It’s a ruaasian car keys!!!!)))

  12. K says:

    The case for it broke, at least the front part. And it’s probably expensive to get a new one. I can’t say I blame this person.

  13. Fenchurch says:

    The magnet/battery looking thing looks more like a Dallas (Now Maxim Semiconductor) iButton device. Probably the encryption key.

  14. joebleed says:

    That “battery” looking device on the black plastic piece is an iButton. We use them in relation to forklifts. In this, the black key like that one is used for reseting an impact event so the forklift can resume function and someone knows the driver hit something.

    The other black thing looks like an rfid key. Ours look like that but gray and they are for door access control, but it really could be used for anything like that. I have been told some door control systems even use the iButtons like above.

  15. K8 says:

    The magnet ‘thing’ looks exactly like a Laser Quest membership tag, and it has been well used. Way to show the world your geek card! (I worked there for about a year which is why I recognize it–this is not a put down but a high-five!!)

  16. Cyro says:

    The magnet on the keychain is for deactivating security on a Hilo.

  17. Daniel says:

    @JB

    We may have seen it already. Maybe that could the next comp: Guess the car.

  18. Desco says:

    K8– Laser Quest uses Dallas/Maxim iButtons, so there’s a reason they look like that– but there are plenty of other companies using those, mostly for security.

  19. Demetrius says:

    He should have stuffed it into a rabbit’s foot… or, a piece of “fur” shaped like a rabbit’s foot.

  20. bubba says:

    Had one of thoses fob’s to open the door at work, really they needed
    to lock us in not out

  21. JB says:

    @Daniel
    You’re right but in such contest, the winner would the the worst looser! How disparaging!

  22. Jon says:

    Inside the remote is just a small PCB with a couple of momentary pushbutton switches on it; easy enough to damage unprotected that a dealer would never give you just a new case. A new remote and programming it for your car costs a lot more than a few inches of tape.

  23. detailgirl says:

    The black thing at the bottom is a disabler, you have to swipe it against a magnet on the underside of the dash board it gives you about 15 secs to put said key in ingition and start the car. They cost about a grand to buy and have installed professionally, so it probably came with the car

    I like this guys repair job, key fobs are expensive. One for a 05 envoy is about $100, i looked in to gettin one for my mom’s truck, when i was livin at home before i got married.

  24. Dan B says:

    @Jon
    it’s a piece of cake to program the new remote. the only thing is that you cannot buy a case for a trinkek, only a trinket itself. so, why should I do this while this one is still working? :)

  25. Dacca says:

    ibuttons are used for a lot of things, from laser tag to whatever. doesn’t matter what it’s for, but kudos for the geek bling.

  26. Kelly says:

    The magnet thing could also be the key to the old-school model Segway HT. They had a Red, Black and Yellow key to make them go diff speeds. Black was for losers. Max of 6mph.

  27. mel says:

    This one is really dumb, not funny at all. sorry

  28. Mike says:

    I’ve also seen the magnet fob used in an ambulance, so the black box knew who was driving at any given time.

  29. mart70 says:

    Russian Lada car style.

  30. MMFarm says:

    They also use those magnet-looking things as transit passes in Istanbul.

  31. Chloe says:

    Haahh.
    It looks like a membership tag for laserzone.
