  1. That Guy says:

I love the smell of battery acid in the morning!

  2. JackGZero says:

I remember doing that on my old Chevy Van when the alternator would not charge the battery. I kept a spare and cables (charging each at home) and just hooked up when the regular battery would not keep the engine running, to get home, until I could get wiring (not alternator) replaced – ended up doing it myself. It was intermittent, ended up replacing the entire wiring harness. I also hooked up a VW light switch when the GM one failed in the dash, as well as a toggle switch for back up lights when that switch failed. Wish I had pics from then (almost 20 years ago)

  3. Hesster says:

Especially as it eats through your pant leg.

You’d think they could at least have put it on the passenger side.

  4. Monty says:

Wow, this is the very first pic on this site I don’t get! o_O

  5. Gargomon says:

    For Sale:

    One Car. Great Condition.

    Batteries Not Included.

This car is like my previous laptop. Genuine battery is crap.

  7. Paddy says:

    I’ve done this before!

  8. dono1 says:

The cool thing is you can hardly notice it. From the other side. Without your glasses. At night.

  9. benadrit says:

Been there. Almost done that. Car with a very expensive starter;$400 on a $500 car. Starter’s not dead, but it takes way too many amps to get it going. New extra battery 1/10th the price.

  10. Daniel says:

Gotta love the crossed leg driving position. Automatic only.

  11. sparkey says:

no need to worry about the next branch on the family tree if that thing explodes

  12. The Cat says:

How long until he shocks himself and/or it falls on the brake?

  13. Mr Evilwrench says:

Passenger side, yeah… I’d be makin my son ride with the battery.

  14. Mr Evilwrench says:

    wtf happened to my gravatar?

  15. Sarcasm says:

    Yah, it’s good idea.
Until you drop your soda in the car….

  16. Paddy says:

Hey, at least he’s taken charge of the situation, instead of deeming this a terminal problem and keeping an acidic attitude!

  17. fragonman says:

the sad part is that i am tempted to try this with motorcycle…just hang it off the back you know?

  18. aaa says:

I’d like to see what happens when that thing hits a pothole.

  19. dono1 says:

He should switch to satellite radio. It’s much better than cable.

  20. ron says:

New security system made convenient. Or it is taking the battery inside to keep it from freezing made convenient or is into jolting nether while driving…..made convenient.

  21. chinapig says:

would love to see how well the cable holds up in the event of the starter requiring more than about 1 1/2 seconds of operation. Especially considering its coiled up on that lovely carpet; right next to the drivers leg. Peach. But yeah, done that before, it was OK tho’ because our steering wheel was on the other side.

  22. monkeyslayer56 says:

    @The Cat
    or the “accelerator”

  23. sintekk says:

Done it!!! Drove a 1994 Cavalier for over a month like that. Most annoying thing was when one of the clamps would pop off the battery — it would loose all my preset radio stations.

  24. steven says:

    It works!! proof:

  25. GabachoMike says:

    Pretty good demo, Steve.

They sell these now in America. Thing is, you don’t even have to exit your vehicle. Plugs into your cigarette lighter. Even has a small circuit that makes sure your system is ‘matched’ ( + to +, – to – ).

    Go for about $50USD.

  26. Roberto says:

Maybe he is trying to put the battery in the trunk to get a more 50/50 weight distribution.

  27. Luke says:

It kinda looks like an inverter, those things that convert the voltage to 240V (Australian power supply, I dont know American voltage). It means you can run any device from it while your on the go.
I woulda wired it under the dash though…

  28. Zotel says:

Lame! On my ’69 Riviera, I kept a UPS and “jumpstart” /battery charger in the car. Now THAT was a kludge.

  29. Matthew says:

He had to make room for the big block engine SOMEHOW!
