Oh wow, I dropped my bass guitar years ago and broke the neck on it. It’s since been kludged and works great…though it looks a bit apocalyptic (which I’m fine with). I should totally submit a pic here…
Ryan, you slide the ruler under the strings (snugged up), mark the ruler with a sharpie (or look at the markings on the ruler, it’s pre-measured), slide out, cut your notches, slide back in and tighten up the strings. Or at least that’s how I would do it but then again, I’m not a musician. I’m more like one of those people who would end up entering something here. (chuckle)
@Schneiderman
Totally agree. If you can make a plastic saddle, Why in the world would you not go get some bone blank and use that? Just got a bone blank for my beater guitar. I’ll spend a few minutes (fine, an hour) making the saddle and it’s going to be great.
@Bouncer
You can pretty much guess everything tis going to go sharp as you go up the neck. The saddle is leaning forward just a bit too much for my liking.
Totally cool. My grandpa made a few guitars back in the day and actually used some of my aunts old plastic barbie furniture to make the bridges with. He painted them black, of course, but you can fleck off the paint and see the sickly pink beneath it.
Beat me, dayy, eight (inches) to the bar!
Now, that’s going to yield some unbearably high action. My fingers ache just looking at it.
Six inches :>
@Monty Or centimeters
Looks like this bridgework measures up.
Normally stuff on this stuff makes me laugh but I think this is pretty cool. NICE

that one will never miss the beat.
As a musician, I say this is awesome.
@Tory Ivory
High action won’t be so bad for slide guitar!
This is kind of amusing but honestly, a bone saddle blank costs like $12 max and will surely sound much better than this plastic…
@Schneiderman
Speaking as a professional musician, $12 is a hell of a lot sometimes.
I think they’re just stringing us along. =)
I dunno, I bet that ruler is polycarbonate, and that might just make a pretty good bridge or nut. Can’t know til you try it.
Every now and then, something really amazing passes through this site that makes me celebrate the ingenuity of some people.
Like this one.
you should! @hosebunny
Personally, I wouldn’t use it as a rule.
I did
Now let’s see how long it takes to get posted…
@dono1
I really don’t think it would measure up…
Is that measure to scale?
This is the second post I’ve read having to do with a bridge being out.
The rule of Metric Guitar Hero…
É impressionante até aonde vai a aplicação de uma régua. O som sairá métrico ou em polegada?
Hurts my ears just looking at it.
Nothing wrong with that, as long as it stays still and doesn’t bend, it’ll be fine. Most of the sound is transferred through the air anyway.
OK if you used the ruler to make a new bridge how did you measure how far apart the strings were to make the notches

Improvisation rules! Nice work.
Im sure the intonation will be dead on
The new bridge is not so bad, but where did they get that thick black hair to use as a first string? What will happen when you try to bend it?
Well, at least the strings are exactly the correct distance.

Dude, you don’t know where the neck plane is. It could be spot on.

@Paddy
I agree Paddy… I’m a musician as well and thought this was pretty ingenious.
Nice guitar, will you play it for me?

Must be a student model.
There there don’t fret!
Rednecks should run the world!!!
