  1. WhiteBelly says:

This device controls the lights in the mechanic shop where the “kill me” taxi was repaired.

Finally, a picture to place next to “kill switch” in the dictionary.

  2. Evan says:

Hey, what are you worried about? The duct tape around the handles will dampen the current…

  3. amias says:

just remember to wear wellies , dry your hands first and dont grip the handles

  4. K says:

Not shown: live, dangling wires and soaking wet floor from leaky basement

  5. FixMaster 2k says:

    Paging Dr. Frankenstein…Paging Dr. Frankenstein.

  6. Neil says:

Fancy – even a built in fuse when the paint scraper melts, the current cuts off.

Though, I doubt there is very much current here – that is some pretty small gauge wire.

  7. Mike says:

Finally! A real, *live* knife switch!

  8. Andrew says:

I particularly like the falling contact failsafe inherent in the design

  9. Rampart says:

  10. Pragmatic Cynic says:

“Among the changes due to cuts backs the prison has gone to self service death penalty executions.”

  11. Uncle Jim says:

I encountered a switch like this in a SHOWER in Costa Rica. It controlled the inline water heater. Because the heater would rapidly burn out if the water was not flowing, you had to turn on the water first, stand in the running shower, and then throw the switch.

  12. JBD says:

    Another KBR job in Iraq!

  13. Pooter says:

    “I say it’s a putty knife!”
    “No, it’s a switch!”

    “Hold on! You’re BOTH right!”

  14. Gargomon says:

Now this is the kinda switch I want for all the lights in my rooms.

    knob – EIN AUS..germany -.- again

  17. WhiteBelly says:

Or maybe…Each putty knife was carefully selected for its resistance. This is a 3 level speed volume control.

  18. one small step says:

And here, I would have just stuck a penny in the fusebox. What is this world coming to?

  19. JBD says:

This is the problem. If they had a penny they would have fixed it right! @one small step

  20. Daniel says:

    @Sue

    Not yet, but soon.

  21. Michael says:

Sad. I probably would have paid him enough for those tools to buy the right switch.

  22. notanengineer says:

I’m wondering where this photo was taken (see one comment above saying Germany, which is 90% probability right), but I mean whether former FRG or GDR??? Nebenbei .. das ist ein Hartz 4 WIN!! :-D … natuerlich einer aus Rossau!!

  23. catso says:

Hey, Gang, everything is OK, there is electrical tape on all the handles.

  24. D. says:

I see things like that, I stick my hands in my pockets and back away.

  27. notanengineer says:

    Fashoom :

    one small step :
And here, I would have just stuck a penny in the fusebox. What is this world coming to?

Pffffft, a paperclip works much better.

  34. Roger says:

If you look closely at the two blades that are open, you can see burn marks near the contact points — probably from the arc thrown when you open the switch.

On the plus side, if you look carefully at the bottom terminals, you can also see that this lovely device has been disconnected.
