Wheels and glass not duct taped? Unimpressed.
Wasn’t there a thing on the Simpsons like this? “Marge, you’re the backbone of this family. You’re like the electrical tape that holds the two halves of my car together!”
Anyway, I can’t totally fault people for cheapie DIY car repairs: If I started right now, it would be days and days before I ever *stopped* being able to think of better things to spend money on than auto repairs. Especially auto BODY repairs. I’m willing to judge people by their appearance or their odor or their mannerisms but NOT by their cars. Cars are holes in the air into which you pour money. Frankly, I think some of these folks would be better off buying a bike, an umbrella and a bus pass, but since our built environment often obligates us to own a car, I’m not inclined to find fault with people who resist throwing away their very hard-earned money on them.

Is the whole car made of duct tape? If so, maybe Duct Tape will award the driver a new car like they do with prom dresses.

No kidding, man. Every time I turn around, my car needs something else done to it. Especially when I get my hands on a bit of cash. It’s like clockwork. I can’t spend my money on anything I actually want, let alone save it. It’s like my car knows when I have money, and demands I spend it on it and nothing else.
looks nice, but I think the car’s history is this:
The former owner of the car has had a car accident. after this he sells the car, hoping that somebody could fix this properly or just salvage the car for some spare parts.
The guy who bought the car saw the mess, thinks “That will be no problem” and starts to “fix” it. While he’s doing it, he has the idea to paint his car silver, but he has no silver spray can at home and the next shop or shopping mall is closed. so he uses lotsa ducttape, he’s happy .. until his neighbor takes a photo and submits it to thereifixedit.com !

Except that I don’t get the feeling that they were repairing the car so much as making a poor attempt at improving it.
What about when, say, the duct tape on the hood loosens and comes loose and flips up onto the windshield at 60mph? With the heat of the engine, it’s more likely than you think.
What about when it rains? The gaps in the tape (believe me there are some) will allow moisture in, then trap it in, leading to a horrible rust problem.

But I would like to bring up an issue that’s been bothering me. I don’t think it needs a voting page. I come here as much for the commentary as the photos, and when I see one that has none it makes me think that it was just voted up but didn’t quite catch her fancy. I say let Ms. Fixit choose what she puts up on the blog. Down with democracy, let her rule us as queen!

Anyone else see the episode of “Red Green” where he turned a white cop car into a “zebra” by using black electrical tape? Evidently, this car owner uses “Red Green” as inspiration.
I hope that fixed their leaky roof!

This of this like an impressionist painting. From a distance, it looks good.
I like the shipping tape’s use as a yellow (tan?) detail on the car.
The person could’ve spent more time applying the duct tape and smooth out the bumps or line up the strips.

This is not a fix-it.
It must have cost the equivalent of a new body job in duct tape! Or he wanted to get a decal job done and was told to tape it before going to the beauty shop!
I heard he was going to go with the Clear Coat option but Office Depot was all out of Scotch tape.
It will probably strip the old paint/rust away upon removal! Some kind of car epilation!
By the way, this model came with a few accessories we can’t see:
- A tape deck

Whoah. We haven’t seen the before picture. This might be a major improvement for all we know. Plus, who’s to say whether duct tape silver is better or worse than a putty and rust two tone job?

My thoughts were not so much about the car, cuz after all, this is just the little red car all ‘roided up with a little extra attention to detailing.

I agree with Daniel, there is obviously some damage to that door, you can see the bubbles in the “paint” job. I do like the fact that they shaved the door handles to add to the custom look, or rather the handle and mirror were “shaved” off in the accident.

Easy: I saw these things in Japan all over the place.
This might be a Department of Homeland Security vehicle and the racing stripe could simply be the driver’s color-coded threat-level indicator. So don’t mess with him- today his temper is “Elevated”.

Oh, it’s real alright. She (the owner is a she) mummified it in duct tape to keep the doors from falling off, amongst other things. She’s a poor college student.

The owner is clearly aware of the ricer rule: Yellow Equals Performance.
The performance he will gain from the yellow stripe will compensate for any aerodynamic issues created by the wavy duct-tape bodywork.

A city about an hour from here has a “Dream Cruise” were people show off their fancy cars. My city has a “Nightmare Cruise”, worst car wins $1000. A local junkyard sponsors it.
The ducttape repaired car would have won in the first few years, but now the competition is getting more intense.
They also bring a car crusher, and smash a few cars.
For various reasons, they can’t smash the Nightmare Cruise winner’s car. They have to remove fluids, batteries, air bags, bodies from the trunk, etc… before they can smash a car.

They finally did it. They built a car out of duct tape. I knew it could be done.
Its probably aerodynamic. Maybe we’re all just being too harsh and the paint just wasn’t man enough for the job?

If you dent your car, and it needs repairing, use ducktape! But, if you use ducktape, why not use it in style?
Or possibly whoever took the time to tape up a whole car is a fan of duct tape and has a thoroughly developed sense of ironic fashion. This very car was parked outside my apartment for like 3 weeks, and ran perfectly. The duct tape finish was entirely planned and actually very well done.
Interestingly, the picture here is my car. The duct tape was actually an improvement. It was spray painted before that. I allowed a hall of artists to use it as a project a few times. This all happened after it got smacked by a semi-truck on the interstate in a hit and run. Incidentally, the duct tape holds nothing on the car. It was just kind of a random idea that continues the unique looks the car has had since I transfered school up here.
and fyi, it is still running just fine, though the duct tape will be re touched in the spring, again.
what’s next?! a rocket made of duckt-tape?! but in all honesty, I wish I could make a car out of duct-tape!
