Floating Cars And X-Promotions!

Check this out. Cubans are actually modifying their cars in an attempt to float to the US. Which is pretty badass considering that unless you’re Inspector Gadget or James Bond, cars aren’t normally buoyant. There’s more of these kludges, along with funny pictures of cars in compromising positions over at ThatWillBuffOut.com

-Big Chevy truck almost made it to the US. Sunk by the Coast Guard.

  2. Zhoen says:

    A Toybota.

    Top Gear tried this.

  3. Rob T Firefly says:

It’s the polar opposite of the boat-car from “Waking Life.”

  4. dono1 says:

I’m no mechanic but I think they may have flooded the engine.

  5. Daniel says:

    Cubans can make anything float.

  6. Czernobog says:

    @Zhoen
I thought the same thing. They actually crossed the channel in Clarkson’s kludge.

  7. amit says:

These people should get an instant citizenship!

  8. tudza says:

Top Gear “tried this”? Did you miss where they motored across the English channel in the new and improved outboard motor pickup truck?

  9. Ptex says:

And we want to model our health care after Cuba……

  10. starwynd says:

    Isn’t that just ducky.

  11. Badgirl says:

MAD about the new look dono.

  12. dono1 says:

Badgirl :MAD about the new look dono.

    What, me worry?

  13. JH says:

Clarkson crossed the Channel, a pretty calm stretch of water. The Caribbean is a little more choppy. Still, the Cubans have the added incentive of there being no other way.

  14. Murb says:

People this ingenious need to be let in.

  15. ^ ^ says:

…makes me think of the duck tours in boston…they actually have trucks designed to do exactly that…

    • Ell-Jay says:

Yeah, we have these “duck” bastard contraptions in Ottawa, Canada. They have had several sinkings, and several fatalities, including whole families, and, get this, nuns. If God had meant us to swim, we would have evolved webbed feet, instead of nasty habits.

  16. Sofar says:

And when he gets to Florida, he’ll have a 59 Buick to tool around in. Assuming he didn’t fill the wheel wells with expanding foam.

  17. wind says:

    @Czernobog
yes, but hammomds looked the best. ;D

  18. slythorne says:

I am more surprised they took the time to paint it then I am that it floats…

  19. An elite says:

Remember the Mariel boatlift? I think the Cubans learned from that experience.

  20. Albert R. says:

Oh, the camionautas. And the autonautas. They rule.

  21. FixMaster 2k says:

    @slythorne
I was thinking the same thing, and I agree with the others, if you are clever enough to make a car from the 50′s seaworthy, you should be allowed in.

  22. nddugs says:

Look close. This thing is packed with more people than a clown car at the circus.

  23. mgrafx says:

So stylin;! I love how they’ve painted the entire thing to match….just for one big trip!

  24. Jim Heckel says:

Rockin’ boat there – I agree, if you can turn a 1959 Buick Electra into a boat, you deserve citizenship. Yankee ingenuity, baby!

  25. Fashoom says:

    Um, where was the photographer?

  26. tw says:

Given the angle, I’d say the photographer was probably in a helicopter, though plane or large enough boat is also possible.

  27. keith says:

Ahh, it’s the new Studeboat we’ve been hearing about.
