  1. TC says:

Where was this? I think I stayed there once!

  2. Kenbo Calrissian says:

Stuff like this boggles my mind… How do they honestly expect anyone to be able to use that??

  3. biff says:

What an odd way to vent your bathroom.

  4. Paddy says:

It doesn’t even look like the seat or lid will clear the gap!

  5. snoot says:

It looks like the notch is just to let the door swing past. I guess privacy isn’t one of their concerns.

  6. Ddygoat1 says:

That is the door. Too funny……,but it’s fixed!!

  7. dono1 says:

    Take your pick:
    A- New low-profile toilet
B- Bathroom door that opens all the way
    C- Both

  8. Paddy says:

Built-in peephole, too. Right at butt level.

  9. Joe Vega says:

Thanks for clarifying that is a door we are looking at. I was confused as to why there was a wall aimed square at the toilet! I was trying to imagine having to straddle the wall to sit on the toilet!?!

  10. Melissa H. says:

Wow. That looks like something my landlord would do.

  11. dono1 says:

I guess that’s one way to make sure he leaves the seat down.

  12. TIFI Fan says:

When I first voted on it in the voting page, I was stumped trying to figure out why a wall would be built that way. Then, in a stroke of genious(not really) It occurred to me it was a door. I came to comments to announce what I figured out, but someone already beat me to it. But yes, I’m pretty certain it’s a door. If it was wall, someone would probably try to have to straddle the wall! hahahaha

  13. Darrell says:

I suppose the cut-out piece from the door is glued to the door frame?!?!

  14. mr.x says:

LOL I have actually seen bathroom exactly like this one.

  15. Daniel says:

I love this one. I had just submitted a similar (crappier) picture of a bathroom like this. Mine was a ridiculously small and grimy bathroom. This one looks big and clean which makes it all the more WTF.

  16. madcow says:

    How would you use that?

  17. Paul says:

Haha, I couldnt see it was a door either at first. Funny solution tho :) and yeah.. classy

  18. Badgirl says:

Somebody got a new jig saw. Show off.

  19. Badgirl says:

    @ TC
It’s the Hotel De Badly Designed Bathrooms

so is this the architect’s fault or the builder’s fault ?

  20. Badgirl says:

I’m just waiting for someone to say it’s photoshopped. PLEASE don’t let me down.

  21. Badgirl says:

“Built-in peephole, too. Right at butt level.”

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the cut out piece was kept there next to the tub so that when you wanted to close the door, you could just insert the cut out and presto – complete privacy!!

  22. Mr P says:

Next time they should have the door swing out of the bathroom

  23. Anthony says:

I’ve seen this sort of arrangement, except that the missing piece was hinged onto the door, so it wouldn’t leave a peephole when the door was closed.

  24. schmo says:

You’d think they’d use a pocket door. Nice.

  25. thermocline says:

The photo was taken at a Days Inn in Danvers, MA. They replaced the original toilet with an elongated one (more comfortable for the gentleman, I suspect).

  26. Paddy says:

    Badgirl :
I’m just waiting for someone to say it’s photoshopped. PLEASE don’t let me down.

They were trying to photoshop it so that it looked like the door was going THROUGH the toilet, but apparently failed.

  27. Hates Photoshop says:

Not photoshop you can see the it in the reflection on the toilet.

  28. Mort says:

Oh lol, our student dormitory room has the same toilet door..

  29. FerroMancer says:

Actually….I’ve been at a hotel that had a door like that around the john. Hell of a coincidence if it’s the same place…

  30. Daniel says:

What kills me is that the shape of the cutout is not even close to the shape of the toilet. They obviously needed to order door N63-A43-b and they ordered the N65-B23-b. What idiots.

    • MM says:

The cutout isn’t meant to match the shape of the toiler- what you can’t see is that when the door is swung back it perfectly meshes with the back of the TV set.

  31. Badgirl says:

    Thank you Paddy, thank you.

  32. GuiGui says:

Hey everyone … Didn’t somebody noticed that it’s the door that we see … That’s such a tiny bathroom … Upon the door is closed it looks so cheap .. A whole in a door … hehe

  33. GuiGui says:

    GuiGui :
Hey everyone … Didn’t somebody noticed that it’s the door that we see … That’s such a tiny bathroom … Upon the door is closed it looks so cheap .. A whole in a door … hehe

I meant a HOLE in the door … Sorry

  34. MR P says:

if the hany man making the cut would of had a Contour Gauge he could have made the correct profile cut

    @Daniel

  35. notanengineer says:

I’d call this “peepin’ tom’s paradise”… until tom gets cock-eyed :-D :-P … nonetheless better fixed than broken!!

  36. Paddy says:

    You’re welcome, Badgirl!

I had to do something like this once in order to make a ship’s rudder fit around its propeller, but this takes it to a whole new level.

  37. dono1 says:

    Funniest comment yet.@Daniel

  38. Daniel says:

@dono1, that means a lot coming from you.

  39. keith says:

…ah boss, you got a minute? …we got a small problem.

  40. !vo says:

@Darrell I was thinking of the same thing, If I had to cut the door like that should I glue it to the door frame?! (Is this makes me bad fixer) :D

  41. Rob says:

    @madcow
You pull your pants down, and….well if I have to tell you more, then your way beyond any hope.

p.s. In case you haven’t read the other posts, that’s a door with a notch cut out so it will open past the toilet.

  42. Badgirl says:

Door to toilet: “It’s over between us. I want to start seeing other toilets.”
Toilet to door: “What??? You can’t swing out on me like that. We go together like ham and cheese, we are hand in glove. Darling, you were MADE for me. *sniff* Look at me, I’m all flush.”

  43. Yeahok says:

I think its pretty obvious what happened here. The person had a 70′s built and designed bathroom with barely enough room for a “small” toilet. They upgraded, and then they were done, they realized the door wouldn’t clear the toilet to close, so they had to cut a hole in it.

  44. Pops says:

Daniel ….. I think the shape is correct, it was just cut upside down ……stupid X stupid = ??????

  45. Hideous1 says:

I think the part that everyone is missing is the funniest! The person who cut the door still managed to cut the shape of the toilet upside-down!

  46. Linda Miller says:

So…is the cut out from the door attached to the doorframe to allow for privacy when the door is closed?

  47. Wheredante says:

It’s obvious that they cut the notch upside down. If the notch were flipped, it’d fit the toilet perfectly. They must have taken the door down and cut the notch, forgetting which side of the door was “up.”

  48. Wheredante says:

  49. thermocline says:

Hi. I took the photo, as mentioned above, last year at a Days Inn in Danvers, MA. A few clarifying comments are in order:

    1) Yes, it is real.
    2) The cut-out is not attached to the door frame.
    3) You can fit your fist through the hole.
    4) The door is hollow. The edges of the hole are inexpertly patched, sanded and painted.
    5) I first noticed it when sitting on the toilet. Even then, I was not sure exactly what I was looking at.
    6) It’s too low to be of any use to a voyeur.

It was of little consequence to me, though others may find a use for it, such as a port through which to receive the Sunday paper or perhaps a Reuben sandwich.

  50. Paddy says:

    Oh, how I laughed!

  51. Carolyn J. says:

    @thermocline

thermocline, how about an emergency roll of paper?

  52. Slacker says:

    thermocline :
The photo was taken at a Days Inn in Danvers, MA. They replaced the original toilet with an elongated one (more comfortable for the gentleman, I suspect).

Ahh… Days Inn, that explains everything!

  53. Scott says:

So what does this bathroom look like when the door is closed? Quite a peep-hole!

  54. Bri says:

Lol! They did the same thing to the bathroom door in my apartment I lived in last year XD

  55. Adrienne says:

Interesting how they thought of THIS as a solution… but never considered, say, pocket doors? Bi-folds? Switching the hinges around? Redneck engineering at its very finest! LOL

  56. glitch says:

actualy that looks like an n65-a23c, not an n65-B23b

  57. Shaughnn says:

The worst part is that they actually took the time to make a reasonably accurate template, of the contour of the bowl and lid, for the cut out, and then flipped it upside-down when the time to make the cut arrived. Startling!

  58. Prom says:

Not the worst “fix” I have seen, but it’s up there!

(FYI: It’s a lot easier to reverse a door frame than to mess-up the cut-out as badly. This is what happens when you hire on credentials and not talent).

  59. CrankyOtter says:

O.M.G!!! My LANDLORD DID THIS TO MY BATHROOM DOOR!!!

They put in a new toilet that didn’t match well with the old plumbing. The toilet was fine at a slight diagonal until it started to rock. I asked them to secure it down. Instead of ruining a couple of tiny hexagonal tiles to put in new bolt tie downs, they straightened the toilet and cut a 6″ high by 2″ wide hole in the gorgeous old door. I moved shortly thereafter.

A friend sent me here to see that I was not the only one. In my case, the door was 80 yr old paneled mohagany with crystal doornobs. Visible from the front door of a tiny apartment. So anyone coming and going from the front door had a direct view of my ass. Lovely.

  60. Sunny says:

HAH! The door to my bathroom is very similar, but was cut a little too small. In hot weather the door gets stuck on the toilet bowl and you have to climb over the toilet to get into the bathroom.

  61. Katie says:

The Days Inn on Lombard St in San Francisco is the same way. Whats with that hotel chain?

  62. K says:

I swear I stayed there! It’s a major hotel chain and it’s in Fort Lauderdale/Plantation, FL. We had the best laugh when we saw this!

  63. erik says:

ive stayed at a high end hotel that did this same thing when they remodeled their bathrooms. very impressive in deed. other rooms they didnt even bother to do the cut out , they jsut let the door hit the toilet so it doesnt open al lthe way .

  64. Robyn Banks says:

I think I stayed there! It’s Borg’s Motel in Pacific Grove, CA.

  65. Jen J. says:

I actually used to work at this hotel and I DIED laughing when I found this! I know the exact room this is from. There’s only one room like this in the hotel. They actually tried a bi-fold door but the guests kept managing to break it down off the track. Also, bi-fold doors are not Days Inn compliant. They lose fewer points in their inspection for the cutout than for having a bi-fold door. Go figure. And in their defense, the type of toilet they need is actually really hard to find for some reason. They have to special order them. They don’t make them like they did 40 years ago when the hotel first opened. Oh, and I remember when I was working there they tried really hard to only give that room to people who were alone, or to couples, so that the lack of privacy would be least felt.

  66. Amy Tucker says:

    @Slacker

I STAYED IN THAT ROOM ONCE!!!!! I HAVE A PICTURE OF THAT SAME DOOR!

  67. ohsoappalled says:

My ex’s law office bathroom door, right off the reception room, after he had a replacement toilet bowl put in. Oops! Class-eeeee.

  68. surefirebob says:

room 157 days inn Danvers mass lol omg

  69. Ben says:

I stayed in a motel once that had a setup like this. The door opened outward, and it was just as well, because my knees hit the door if I used the toilet with the door closed

  70. conculcate says:

I’m just picturing the “handy” man in the bathroom, as he finishes installing the new toilet: “There. I’m done. Now to just open the door and leave… uh oh… HEY JEB, GO GET MY SAWZALL!”

  71. AshJ says:

I once stayed in quite a nice hotel that had a room that was positioned in such a way that the bed blocked the bathroom door from closing. At least this place tried to do something about it. Albeit not very successfully.

  72. Luc says:

Actually, I stayed at a motel that had this problem too. Only thing is, at this motel, they nailed the cut-out to the doorframe, so that there was no big hole in the door when it’s closed, and still cleared the door

  73. giggggy says:

If this is a motel … makes me wonder if all the rooms are like this lmao

  74. Overthinking? says:

Why didn’t they just put the door on to open out? Baha.
