The straps will hold for sure. The question is, is the metal for the ratchet buckles have anti-corrosion plating?
The other question is, is the 2x4's strong enough and why not add supports on all 4 sides?

This is a fairly common sight in my area, where the original poles put in when the neighborhood was built are finally starting to bend and crack with age. 2x4s, second poles, and PVC pipes are all commonly used to brace the original poles because replacing them takes too much time, money, and traffic delays. Some of the 'temporary' fixes I know of have been there long before I moved to the area, so at least 4 years.

<a href="#comment-1371" rel="nofollow">@~eriC</a>
Yeah, unfortunately, "short-term" appears to be rather subjective. There's a fix like this in Cleveland Heights, Ohio (Cedar/Fairmount for those who know), someone cratered a pole on a corner, it's been that way for about a year. No idea when they'll bother to replace it; I guess the cities can now beg "economic conditions", all while upping our taxes to compensate.
