If the tape failed, it would cause drag of one wing of the plane causing it to slow down, maybe fall, and go in one direction because there’s more drag on one wing than the other. The part the tape is on looks like the Right Vertical Stabilizer.

I’m not concerned about the use of this tape, it’a good stuff. What does concern me is that it appears to have been applied over a de-icing boot, and could interfere with its function.

Just because it is a kludge on an airplane doesn’t mean there is any danger. This is legit and many kludges are know to work. There is no universal law that states kludges must fail.

duct tape was originaly used in ww1 this perpose
and even gun repair wich is why one of it origenal names was gun tape.
