  5. Ben says:

    Duct tape’s being used for everything nowadays! Hell, i’ve seen people with wallets made from the stuff, but… a spoon? never would’ve thought of that.

  6. Annete says:

    As my friends (most of them working in the music business) say: There’s nothing that can’t be fixed with Duct Tape.

  7. Hayter says:

    And as my friends in the car racer scene say. There isn’t anything you cant mold, make or stick together with duct tape.

  8. Jon says:

    Nice thinking.
    It’s called DUCK tape because when it was invented (WW2), it’s waterproof quality was unique, similar to a duck’s back.

  9. matthew says:

    uh… no. that is completely wrong. its called DUCT tape becasue it was originally used on DUCTS to form an airtight seal on ductwork throughout peoples homes

  10. Jennifer says:

    uh, no and no … duct tape was originally developed during World War II in 1942 as a water resistant sealing tape for ammunition cases … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape

  11. maggie says:

    Though, per the same Wiki article, it did get its name from being used on ductwork:
    After WWII, the housing industry boomed and people started using duct tape for many other purposes. The name “duct tape” came from its use on heating and air conditioning ducts, a purpose for which it, ironically, has been deemed ineffective.
    (Jon does seem pretty fixated on that one avian brand of duct tape, tho…)

  12. jjaj says:

    uh, you’re all wrong. its called duct tape because it looks like a duct in a pond.

  13. joe says:

    uh, you guys are still wrong. It’s called duct tape because it rick roll’d.

  14. some dude says:

    matthew :

  19. Elle says:

    That is really rather ingenious!

  20. Zak says:

    Oh fer cryin’ out loud people, call it GAFFERS TAPE and be done with it! (Although, created during WWII and named Duck tape because of it’s water resistance, later adopted by the HVAC industry where the name “duct” tape seemed to make more sense. Q: Why is duck/duct tape like “The Force?” A: Because it has a light side, a dark side and it holds the universe together.)

  21. Izaak says:

    @Jon,Matthew,Jennifer,Maggie,jjaj, and Zak: Would you people give the history and way it got it’s name a rest?

    I think I’ll try this with some duct tape, partly just to see if I can do it, and partly because, who knows? I might need a spoon in an emergency.

  22. carlos says:

    the fins on the side dont look too comfortable

  23. KillaVirus says:

    @ZAK
    actually gaffa tape and duct tape arnt the same one is fully fabric and the other is synthetic with fabric ran through it.

  24. gadget0911 says:

    Just to Correct the naming of tapes, the tape used here is cloth-backed tape, Known as gaff or gaffer tape here is Aus, it is commonly reffered to as Duct or duck tape in other parts of the world, including the US. Proper Duct tape (used for air con ducting – im not certain of origin of name) is actually pvc or electrical tape, only 2 inches wide instead of the usual 1/2 inch.

    More evidence of how gaff and cable ties will save the world, or at least help feed it in this case!

  25. Akkhima says:

    I’d be more impressed without the zip tie.

  26. niki says:

    YAY MY TWO FAVORITE THINGS IN THE WORLD COMBINED… DUCT TAPE AND SPOONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. des says:

  31. WTF says:

    HMMMMMMMM i wunder how he did dat hmmm i dont no maybe he raped a spoon in da tape ?

  32. Brithael says:

    three syllables for you… Mac-guy-ver!

  33. Jill says:

    Duct tape is used on ducts, but can also be called duck tape because it is water repellent. It’s also called “how to shut up annoying people and dogs forever tape”, because of various illegal things. I call it kinky tape, because of other slightly illegal things.

  34. Garnet says:

    @Ben
    *Is guilty of the duct tape wallet thing* I was bored, got tired of buying new wallets when mine got messed up, so, ummmm….yea, I made one out of duct tape, surprisingly, that one has yet to get messed up XD

  35. Mike says:

    @JR

    how could you ever smoke out of that? the heat from a lighter would burn and melt the tape…so no you’re dumb.

  36. Anon says:

    Two weeks ago I made a paddle for a canoe out of sticks and a fish net and also Duct Tape.

  37. Lael says:

    Okay lets settle this now….. DUCT tape is used on air ducts. DUCK tape is a brand name. There are several types of Duct tape some with fabric woven in the pvc component and called gaffers tape. Really people are we arguing about tape?

  38. TheGabe says:

    @JR
    made of plastic? Pox on you, heretic.

  39. Christina says:

    I have to weigh in here as well. Gaffers tape, as far as I know, is a fabric tape with a strong bond that is removeable without residue and is used typically by gaffers to hold down electrical wires on movie sets.
    Duct tape, on the other hand, leaves a nasty mess when removed.
    Additional TMI info: Both gaffers and duct tape make excellent substitutes for cold wax strips because they remove the hair and leave no mess. Not that I’ve…okay yeah, I have.

  40. Cameron Beatley says:

    Fluffers tape is good for keeping the nasty residue inside…

  41. CAden says:

    just buy a spoon

  42. cng1 says:

    i totally did this with aluminum foil for a bunch of people at a graduation dinner once

  43. cng1 says:

    @Mike
    also, if you’ve ever seen pulp fiction, you know he’s not talking about smoking

  44. Pete says:

    first of all this is NOT gaffer tape… it is duct tape, and unless you are playing in a garage band they are not the same thing. Gaffers tape WILL leave a residue if left on long enough or it gets warm enough. If you notice what appears to be a grid in the tape in the picture- that is the cloth grid backing found in duct tape- gaffers tape doesn’t have that type of a cloth backing, it is a cloth backed tape, but this is cloth backed pvc covered duct tape. Gaff tape doesn’t use the pvc backing.

  45. Nelson says:

    For those of you interested in the history less angle of this argument, I found a youtube video on the subject. Search for HotForWords Duck or Duct and you’ll find it.

  46. LadyS says:

    omg this is a win…!!!
