in actual fact, it can be harder for people experienced with playing real instruments because of the fact that they are used to playing the song, the dots on the screen, tho they follow the generel rythym of the song aren’t 100% and can throw a skilled musician off

I’ve had guitar player friends who try playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero, and it’s hard for them. It doesn’t mean they’ll be good at the game. They’re different. No, playing the video game doesn’t make you good at the real instrument. But being good at the real instrument doesn’t make you good at the game either. It might help a little, but probably not a lot.

The video game drums are pretty good at teaching rhythms and how to work the kick drum, as well as just overall coordination. THAT can be very useful. Especially when you use the drum trainer. It’s the same basic concept, and a lot more similar to the real thing than the guitars are.

However, with the guitar…there is very little crossover in skills outside maybe finger dexterity and reaction time.

And being talented at an instrument doesn’t necessarily translate into anything useful outside of playing the instrument, just like being good at the video game doesn’t translate into anything useful outside of that. Sure, being good at a real instrument means you can play music, but that’s about it. But it doesn’t necessarily mean you can write your OWN music. If you’re good at playing it, but can’t write songs for crap and just play covers, that’s not really much better than being good at Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
